    Formatting Hard Drive in External Enclosure


    Hello All Wanted to format a Hard drive in external enclosure, and swap out a very old drive in Mom's Desktop machine, ((No room for SSD in that system unforuately, Older HP P6-2133W AMD A6-3620 Desktop) Anyways dummy me started the task on Secondary Gaming Laptop PC, so far 38 percent, approximately how long will it take to finish Formatting a 1TB drive lol Guess if not done by time ready to sleep later, i'll just stay up til done, then shutdown Laptop, then transfer the backed up files to another drive tomorrow morning, no idea if i'll get it all done tonight or not. ((less than year old WD black 1TB in the External Enclosure) Might replace her 3 year old Toshiba Internal with this drive possibly

    Hi Comeback, you should be able to access those files if you put that hard drive into an external enclosure . . .

    When you connect that drive, does Windows actually see the drive - can you see it in File Explorer?

    Open Disc Management (accessible by right clicking your Start Button

    Do you see that drive listed there?

    im looking for some external hard drive enclosure recommendations

    im looking to buy an enclosure because a hdd and enclosure is way cheaper than the assembled external drives they sell.

    thing is to know whats the best to buy so here are my questions:

    whats the best internal interface? (IDE, SATA, or SATA 2) - HDD connection

    whats the best external interface? (SATA, SATA 2, eSATA, or USB 2.0) - PC connection

    whats better to have if its only being used as a windows restore drive? (fan or fanless)

    is aluminum case better than plastic or does it really matter?

    i was hoping to get a nice external drive for about $20 but no more than $30 + shipping
    and i will just ghost a clean install of windows with all my files, games, and programs installed then its back in the box and i'll put it in the closet untill needed for a format and reinstall.

    I do not see it in File Explorer. In Disc Management, I see the following:

    Disc 0, Partition 1

    Disc 0, Partition 4

    I don't know which one the enclosed hard drive is
