  1. Freeze > BSOD > Trapped in boot menu (repeatedly)

Nearly two weeks ago my computer had freezed, then I got "Unexpected store exception" blue screen, and then the laptop rebooted into Boot menu, where any of options (even exit) leads back to the same menu. Since then I've been for several times reloading it via long-pressing power button, and each time the laptop would startup, load (extremely slowly, like 3-4 times slower than before), let me use itself for a couple of minutes, then freeze, throw "Kernel data inpage error" BSOD and load the Boot menu again.

CHKDSK works from time to time with different results - from something like "critical errors found, save your data before it's too late" to "no errors found, everything's fine".

I've also had "Driver irql not less or equal" error once. And also I once got that freeze in Safe mode.

I can append any photos if needed.

Is it agonizing? Freeze > BSOD > Trapped in boot menu (repeatedly) :(

    :)

[Windows 10 BSOD] Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap

Unexpected kernel mode trap BSOD always appears when I try to update Windows 10 or reset the PC.

I've tried many solutions, such as:

    -Disconnecting external devices

    -Booting in safe mode

    -Memory diagnostic

    -chkdsk

none of which worked. Any suggestions to this problem would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  3. unexpected kernel mode trap BSOD

    Hi Adam,

Thank you for posting in Community.

We understand your concern and we will provide the information required to help you resolve the issue.

Before we proceed, I would like you to provide the information stated below:

Do you get the error message/BSOD only when you uninstall, reinstall, etc third party app?

The error UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP indicates that the Intel CPU generated a trap and the kernel failed to catch this trap. This trap could be a
bound trap (a trap the kernel is not permitted to catch) or a double fault (a fault that occurred while processing an earlier fault, which always results in a system failure).

To know the exact cause of the BSOD, I suggest that you provide the Dump files that were produced when the error occurred, or the Event ID from your Event Viewer which was recorded during the time of the crash.

    Hope this helps

  4. Freeze > BSOD > Trapped in boot menu (repeatedly)

    No startup boot menu

    Hello Kimoefat,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

As an initial recommendation, I would suggest you to access the System configuration utility and check if the Operating System installation path for Ubuntu exists. To do so, follow the below steps.

    • Type msconfig in the search bar and select System Configuration from the search results.
    • Select the boot tab in the System configuration console to check if the installation path for Ubuntu exists.
If it exists, next logical step is to check if the boot menu time out has been set to 0, which results in Boot menu not showing up.

The boot menu time-out determines how long the boot menu is displayed before the default boot entry is loaded. It is calibrated in seconds. To change the boot menu time-out, use the Bootcfg
/timeout switch. Valid values are from 0 through 999. You cannot use Bootcfg to set an indefinite time-out.

You can run the following Run command line to set the boot menu time-out accordingly. To do so, follow the below steps.

    • Press Windows key + X, select
Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt

    • Type in the following command: bootcfg /timeout 10

      timeout 10
will set the time frame to 10 seconds
However, if the Boot path for Ubuntu does not exist in the boot menu of System Configuration utility, I would suggest you to check if the Ubuntu is overridden by the Windows installation or if the Ubuntu installation files are corrupted.

Hope the above information is helpful. If you need further information, feel free to write to us and we would be happy to help you.

    Thank You.
