Windows 10: Frequent crashes and corrupted Input.dll, riched20.dll files

For the last couple of years I have been experiencing frequent random crashes on my PC. These crashes are no BSoD or shutdowns, but complete freezes that require a hard shutdown by holding the power button. These are independent of what software is running, and do not occur with any predicatability. Sometimes right after startup, sometimes several hours later, sometimes not at all. The event log simply records that the previous shutdown was not expected but does not indicate the source of the error.I have tried multiple solutions including some hardware replacement options in order to resolve

From admin Command Prompt, run:

• TAKEOWN /F c:\windows\syswow64\riched20.dll /a
  
• ICACLS c:\windows\syswow64\riched20.dll /grant administrators:F

Thanks for the feedback, John. In that case, one could run the complete set of commands to restore the default ACEs for the file, as in the article Error 2894 RICHED20.DLL GetLastError() returned: 5.

Hello. I am running Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2. I have been unable to install H&R Block tax program, with an 'unable to load RICHED20.DLL' message. I have consulted numerous MS Community threads, but none of them address my particular problem. Basically, I have found that the permissions list for file c:\Windows\SysWOW64\riched20.dll have been corrupted; and I cannot rename, move, or delete the file. I cannot even read the permissions tab in the file's properties. I have downloaded a new copy of the file from Microsoft, but cannot get rid of the old, corrupt, file so that I can replace it. As per some of the Communities posts, I have tried running some repair commands, to no avail. I have tried Safe Mode as well. I am an administrator, and have tried the built-in 'Administrator' account as well. So how can I replace this file?
