This happens frequently in a week. You won't notice alerts or whatsoever. Will just find in Reliability Monitor many crashes like that.

Of course SFC /SCANNOW and all other system checks you can imagine report no error, the system is perfectly stable, clean, no other issues of any kind.

windows 10 desktop goes blank periodically from explorer crash

What about Reliability Monitor? Have you had look in there for crashes involving explorer.exe?

KB4038788 Update Sept. 12 2017

No. I have not received any error message. The crashes where observed in the Reliability Monitor.

After the update, Edge crashed at start up. And then again after attempts to open the browser. This mornings crash was after attempted opening of Edge.

I have attached the Reliability Monitors breakdown of the Edge crashes.
