Windows 10: Frequent lag spikes after upgrading to w10

Hi there. I've recently updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 and to be honest I'm not too happy about the new version. More specifically, there's one issue that has been bothering me and it's the fact that every couple seconds my ping reaches the thousands causing my screen to freeze in games and goes back to normal. This problem appeared when I first installed the version and hasn't stopped increasing my ping. It's kind of frustrating, especially since I'm not able to play my favourite games anymore, since every 5-10 seconds my ping spikes. I've tried to stop the ping using methods that I f

• What browser are you using when you experience a lag?
• Does the lag occur in a particular game?

In the meantime, we suggest you run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. Here are the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• On the left pane, click on View All.
• Click on System Maintenance to run the troubleshooter.

Frequent lag spikes on wifi connectivity

I was recently forced to switch from ethernet cable to a wifi connection.

At ethernet connection i had no issue of ping spikes but now in wifi im experiencing frequent lag spikes from 100ms-300ms.

I have already tried resetting the TCP/IP, disabling auto turn off of WiFi device, reconfiguring TCP/IP, disabling wlan autoconfig but to still no solution has come up to my problem.

I think you should take a step back and re-think your question.

'Lag' means slower, and 'spike' means faster. So the term "lag spike" makes no sense.

Ping is a test to see whether your computer is able to reach another device on a network; people usually use the ping command to see if their computer is able to reach a location on the internet. Ping makes four attempts to reach the chosen location. The
times displayed with the results of the ping command measure how long a standard set of packets took to make the round-trip from your computer to the location on the internet and then back to your computer. Thus, it's a measurement of your internet connection
- it doesn't say anything about your computer.

If you're having a problem with your computer, just explain it in your own words. Don't worry about getting the terminology right - the folks here can take care of that part.
