Windows 10: Fresh Install of Windows 10 on new M.2 SSD not being recognized in BIOS

Hello, I recently got a new M.2 SSD that I installed in my motherboard on my desktop PC. I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 10 through USB installation media, which appeared to go smoothly. When rebooting into the installation, Windows Boot Manager loads and gives me two options to boot to, Volume 6 and Volume 4 Volume 6 being Windows 10 on the new SSD, I assume Volume 4 being Windows 10 on the old drive, which I had not yet reformatted. Booting this way works fine, however if I shut down the PC, remove the old drive, then boot back up, the BIOS does not recognize any connected hard drive as having a bootable OS. If I go into the boot menu it recognizes that the M.2 is there in the boot order, but doesn't recognize a Windows installation on it.


For reference, I did select the correct hard drive during Windows installation, and the M.2 is formatted in GPT. If I reconnect the old drive it works fine. However, my plan was to wipe the old drive to free up space, and use the new one as the primary OS, which currently I can't do if I can't boot with it soley.

Crucial m.2 ssd not recognized by bios post windows 10 installation

Installed windows 10 pro on my crucial m.2 ssd 500gb as us z97 board and it was fine.

Drivers updated two monitors came to life with beautiful desktop. File explorer was different, login screen was nice, start button was crisp....I played. A little bit with it and went to work. Came back and found my pc in bios.

i immediately set everything to default. And found that my crucial m.2 ssd is nowhere to be found in my bios. Hence no OS to boot from.****???

I popped in another crucial m.2 ssd and its fine. Going to attempt to install again and see if it repeats....... Stay tuned guys I may have found a problem.

 

M.2 SSD no longer being recognized

Is the M.2 disk recognized on BIOS?
If it isn't, it's probably a hardware problem and you should as for a new in warranty.

If it's recognized on BIOS it's probably a corrupted software.
Boot from a Win 10 installation disk, launch a cmd window (Shift+F10) and type:
diskpart
list volume (take note of the letter assigned to your windows in the M.2 drive)
exit
sfc /scannow /offwindir=X:\windows /offbootdir=X:\ (replace X with the drive letter found with list volume)

My recommendation is to create a utilities disk Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

 

Fresh installation of windows 10 onto SSD

I've recently bought a laptop which came with the OS installed on the HDD. However, I've bought a M.2 SSD that I want to load the operating system onto and boot from.

I've tried cloning the hard drive to the SSD to fresh installing windows 10 onto the SSD except neither works. When I tried cloning the HDD, the files appeared on the SSD, but in the BIOS settings it wasn't recognized as a bootable drive. On the other hand,
when I tried to do a fresh install of the OS onto the SSD, it automatically re-installed on the HDD without giving me an option.

Some help would be greatly appreciated.
