  2. WD HDD not recognized after fresh install with new SSD

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand that the hard drive is not getting detected in the Disk management. We will assist you to resolve the issue.

As a workaround and as an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to interchange the cables of the hard drive only if you are comfortable with and check if that helps to resolve the issue.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.

    Thank you.

WD HDD not recognized after fresh install with new SSD

I have 2 drives. My laptop is also working flawlessly now. I didn't want to change anything that wasn't absolutely necessary.

    fresh install with new HDD

Just simply reinstall, and it will activate automatically (skip any key entry).

In rare event it fails to activate, you can use your old windows key if you install version 10586.

Note: good plan to make an image backup of current install just in case things go pearshaped.

Assuming laptop is eufi based, no limit. For older legacy bios limit is 2.2TB without special drivers.

If there are many programs installed or files saved on the old hard drive, better clone everything to the new HDD. This will save you some time to reinstall everything. Use Macrium reflect or Easeus todo backup freeware to clone.
