  1. From 250GB SSD to 500GB SSD (internal) How to transfer data?

First, if this is not in the correct place, will a moderator please move it, and let me know.

Windows 10 version 1909 see profile for system specs

    I currently have a 250GB SAMSUNG SSD M.2 970 EVO NVMe PC|-Express 3.0 x4 installed, and have purchased this:

Samsung (MZ-V7E500BW) 970 EVO SSD 500GB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology.

The new drive will go in to the same slot as the old one.

Is there a way to transfer the files from the current drive to the new one? I have a system image of my PC saved on an external drive. Can I just use that to transfer everything? Or do I need to re-install all of my software? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks.

    TRS

    :)

    SSD VS HDD

A 250GB SSD is *much* better than a 500GB HD in terms of speed. SSDs of any size are much faster than HDs of any size.

But 500GB is twice the size of 250GB, regardless of what kind of drive it is

As an analogy, $500 in cash is twice the amount of money as $250 in a bank account.

    Replacing my HDD with SSD?

    Hi,

Just a bit of advice concerning the size of the new SSD...

I have personally encountered circumstances in which some of the newer SSD's with "TLC" (3D) cells have a problem when they become half full or more...

One in particular dropped from 500mbps to less than 25mbps... Another brand was almost as bad...

This is considered "Normal" to a certain degree.. This is because of the configuration of the internal data buses in the drive... 120-250GB drives have a single bus, and once the drive is half full and the buffer is filled, the speed drops dramatically...

This is not really noticable with a small file, but try to copy a 4GB Windows 10 ISO and you will hit a wall..

This happens somewhat in larger drives as well, but to a much lesser degree... The reason being that a 500GB SSD might have two 250GB Buses, or maybe even four 120GB Buses...

If you are going to put anywhere close to 180GB on a 250GB SSD, you may regret your purchase...

I would personally choose a minimum of 480-512GB... Fortunately the price has come WAY down lately.

  4. From 250GB SSD to 500GB SSD (internal) How to transfer data?

    Replacing my HDD with SSD?

Me again. Will this SSD work with MLC?

SAMSUNG SSD 250GB 860 Evo Sata III MLC Internal Solid State Disk HDD Laptop T6S2.

I'm on a Desktop. Will a SSD 250GB work with 180GB added (cloned) if it's MLC? I would like to save money by using a smaller solid state. And I definitely want MLC because I have big files like Windows and Linux ISO's and a few Virtual Machines
on VMware. So will a 250GB work fast? Do I switch some things from cloned SSD to my new blank 2TB data HD when I'm done booting the 250GB for the first time?
