From Windows 11 I am unable to connect to my NAS Server Getting Error

Hello Everyone Before I was able to connect to my NAS Server through File Explorer under the network tab. I would click on network and then TrueNAS and a credential box would pop up to enter my username and password. I do not have any saved credentials in credentials manager, and I always input my username and password when logging in. Yesterday morning I did not try to log on to the server. I did however update my bios. About three hours later i tried to log on to my server and received an error see attached. I also noticed in the credential box for username and password near th

RPC error: cannot connect to NAS drive

Since upgrading from Win7(64) to Win10(64), I have been unable to connect to my NAS drive (\\NET_DRIVE). While I can see the drive in windows for mapping a drive, File Explorer and Network Sharing, when I try to map the drive, I get the following error:
\\NET_DRIVE is not accessible.... A remote procedure call (RPC) protocol error occurred.

    • The NAS drive is connected to my WiFi router, not to a remote computer.
    • The user profile I'm using has administrative rights
    • This problem did not occur when running Windows 7. It started when I upgraded to Windows 10
How can I fix this so I can access my NAS drive?

    Windows 10 & NAS Box

    Hi Peter,

A few possible reasons can cause this issue. To help us identify the cause of this problem, we would like to know the following information:

    • How is your NAS box connected to your computer? (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB)
    • Are you using a program provided by the manufacturer of your NAS box to access it?
    • Do you receive any error messages when accessing your NAS box? If yes, what is the exact error message?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, we suggest that you perform the solution provided by omiklik (Most Helpful Reply)
in the following thread: Unable to see NAS drive on Network - Win 10 PC.

Keep us updated on the status of the issue, and we will be glad to assist you further.

How to get multiple accesses to a NAS server?

I have need to get access to 2 shares on a NAS server using different credentials - one set of credentials for occasional access to a secured share; another for continuous access to a public share. I just found out that Windows does not allow this without some game-playing.

From Windows 11 I am unable to connect to my NAS Server Getting Error 87083d1485968554t-how-get-multiple-accesses-nas-server-multiple-server-connections.png

I've seen 2 circumventions. For one of the connections:

    1. use the server's IP address, or
    2. create another DSN name for the server and refer to that other name.

#1 is not a good solution unless I give a static IP addr to the server. I could do that, but I'd rather not.

I don't know how to do #2. Somehow put a CNAME record in my routers DNS server? Get the server to supply multiple DNS names? Dynamically add a record to Windows' etc\hosts file by a script?

Does anyone have experience with this?
