    Frozen desktop, black taskbar without icons and slow startup


    So I recently had a problem where my ASUS laptop is taking so long on the startup, and after several minutes, the desktop freezes entirely and the taskbar is completely black except for the bar where you search for things I don't know what is called. Keep in mind, I didn't customize or change my taskbar at all. And so, i tried everything from going into automatic repair, resetting my pc both the methods of keeping the files and deleting all the files and for some reason that process finished at 51% and immediately went into automatic repair, so I restarted and all my files were there, and

    System Icons on taskbar

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

    Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

    If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:


    • Click on the search bar on the taskbar.

    • Type system icons.

    • Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

    Slow Startup

    Does anybody know why I am having really slow system startups? I don't have extra startup programs than I use to have. The only thing that I think it could be is my antivirus program. I use AVG now since I reformated 2 days ago..and every since then, I have a really slow startup..I don't know if that is the reason..Does anybody have any suggestions, on how to speed my startup? I use to be able to be on my desktop screen in like 35-40 seconds at most. And now it is way over a minute. Any help would be gr8.

    No icons on desktop after startup only

    Welcome to the forum!

    Have you tried toggling the Desktop icons on and off?

    • Right-click on an open area of the Desktop
    • Click: View
    • If Show Desktop icons is already checked, uncheck it.
    • Repeat the above steps a time or two.
    • Check: Show Desktop icons

    Desktop Icons - Hide or Show in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

    If no go on the above, right-click on the empty Desktop, and create a file.
