When MS community will have a look at this?We have a concerns and search for answers; but too often get stuff sometimes nearly 10 years old, obsolete and of course in locked threads. What is the point to keep these threads that most likely will no more be of any help to any one and such a waste of time. I sugested in these case that may be a link to an update be added to these dead threads...I'm stilll using W10 but keep being advised that shortly it will be no longer supported by MS. However I would appreciate help from the community for a while. As for W7; I guess those who stick with it wou

Why are threads on here locked? This is frustrating because I have the answer to a question that didn't get a good answer

What is the purpose of locking threads? Wouldn't Microsoft want them to be as good as possible for future readers with similar problems, so that they don't have to make a duplicate that requires costly answers?

  3. Unanswered questions in this community that are "locked" and cannot be replied to.

Q: Why are there so many unanswered questions in this community?

A: Because they are "locked" and cannot be replied to.

Followup Q: If you have an answer to a "locked" thread, how do you provide it for the benefit of other community users?

It should not matter how old a thread is. If I have the same question and come across the answer, I would like to be able to share it with others who originally had the question and anyone who has it now or in the future. I am currently frustrated because I have discovered an answer to a question that seems to have been posted and unanswered multiple times in this community, but the discussion threads are all locked. How can I provide answers to these?

It is not solely to do with the Windows 10 forums.

    It is the whole Community.

Restart of auto-lock functionality Thread created:

11/18/2017 12:31:14 AM Created

Earlier this year, Microsoft tested different scenarios of thread auto-lock feature in the Internet Explorer and other forums. After experimenting with 30-day and 90-day thresholds, engineering set out to build the functionality into the new platform
with a 90-day threshold. Now, plans are being made to re-launch thread auto-lock as a permanent community feature beginning in early to mid-November. Auto-lock will run in
all public forums and languages, locking threads with no replies in the past 90 days.

Thank you for your feedback during the testing period!

You can request that a thread be unlocked in the Moderation Request Thread.

But Forum Moderators do not normally unlock locked threads.

Your request will be taken on its merits as threads are also manually locked by Forum Management for these reasons:

Threads are locked because of inactivity and manually locked because of the fact that the information they contain may be outdated or the threads are being resurrected from years ago by posters adding their questions which are often off-topic and/or those
threads are attracting spammers continually, flame wars, abuse, etc.

Example of the weekly Moderators Requests thread:
Moderation requests - Week of January 1, 2018

The Moderation Request thread is a Thread in the Community Participation Center Forum which is renewed weekly:

    Community Participation Center.

    Cheers.
