Windows 10: FTP with Dynamic IP on a Windows 10 pro machine

I have a Windows 10 pro machine on which I activated FTP Server.

My network has a dynamic IP address.


I want to protect the server and want to add an SSL to the FTP settings.


a. Can that be done with a dynamic IP address. I understand the issue that users have when the IP address changes

b. Where can I get a free or do I have to buy an SSL

c. Who offers SSL for dynamic IP addresses?

If you have a dynamic IP address, you would need to setup dynamic dns, there are free services such as:

Free Dynamic DNS - No-IP.com - Managed DNS Services

You can either purchase an SSL cert, or use a free service such as:

Let's Encrypt - Free SSL/TLS Certificates

The IP address makes no difference of the SSL, as it is based on the domain name which you are using.

From the description provided, I understand that you want to assign an IP address instead of the Dynamic configuration.

Please follow the below suggested steps and check if it helps.

• Right click on Start Menu to open the Power User menu and select Control Panel.
• Choose Network and Internet and click on Network Sharing Center.
• Select Change Adapter settings from the left pane.
• Right-click on the network adapter you want to assign an IP address and click Properties.
• Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button.
• Now change the IP, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Server Addresses. When you’re finished click OK.
• You’ll need to close out of Local Area Connection Properties for the settings to go into effect.

Open the Command Prompt and type ipconfig to verify if the changes were successful.
