Full install media for Win10 Professional, when upgrading from Home

    Brand new ASUS laptop.
Has Windows 10 Home installed (the ASUS flavor though, with ASUS eula, etc.)

    Want to do two things:
    1. Wipe the ASUS Win10 install completely, and install Microsoft's vanilla Win10
    2. But install Professional instead of Home. Will pay the "upgrade" cost. But get the install media for the full Professional version. So I can install Microsoft's Win10 Pro straight away. Not install Win10 Home and then updgrade to Professional on top of it.

    Is that possible?

    :)

Win7pro\Win10pro Computer will not discover Win8.1pro\Win10Pro Computer but will discover Win8.1home\Win10home Computer

Bit of an odd one here so first let me describe my home network.

    1. Main - Win10 professional upgraded from 8.1 professional

    2. Media - Win10 professional upgraded from 7sp1 professional

    3. Laptop - Win10 Home upgraded from Win8.1 home

My Main Computer discovers both the Media and Laptop

My Media Computer discovers the laptop

My Laptop Computer discovers both the Media and Main

So my media computer will not discover my main computer in short. When this media computer had Win7.1 installed the only way it would network with my main computer is the firewall would have to be turned off on the Media Computer. I have tried turning off
the firewall on the media computer now to no avail. I have also tried to disable the firewall on the Main computer and that does not work either.

I can ping the Media Computer from the Main Computer and the Main Computer from Media Computer.

I get a network credentials login prompt when I try to map a drive using \\Main computer's IP\D$ from Explorer from the Media Computer to the Main Computer's Shared D Drive and I can login using the credentials that I use to login the Main Computer.

Anyone have any ideas why the Main Computer won't populate as a computer in Network on the Media Computer?

  3. Windows 10 enterprise evaluation convert to enterprise

    Dear Andre,

I've tried it once again. I was able to upgrade Win10 enterprise eval to full Professional using iso from Media Creation Tool.

Then, I've activated Pro version to an Enterprise Full install media for Win10 Professional, when upgrading from Home :) Dunno why iso with full enterprise edition didn't let me keep files and settings on the machine.

Full install media for Win10 Professional, when upgrading from Home

Create a Windows 10 installation USB flash drive:
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials

Once you have the flash drive created, open notepad or word pad and enter the following lines:
    [EditionID]
    Professional
    [Channel]
    Retail

Save the file as ei.cfg in the \sources folder of the USB flash drive you created. Make sure it is not ei.cfg.txt or ei.cfg.doc. It needs to be just plain ei.cfg.

Your Windows 10 USB flash drive should now install Windows 10 Professional when you do a clean install with it.

However, if you do end up with Windows 10 Home - you can easily upgrade it to Pro by purchasing the Pro upgrade. All the upgrade to Pro does is add new features and you will end up with the exact same installation as if you had installed Pro to begin with.

Thanks for the tips. Will give that a try.

Good to know the upgrade path gives the same install as having Pro to begin with.

    Thanks a bunch!
