  1. Full Windows 10 (not WinToGo) on USB

Hi all, today I have installed Full Windows 10 Pro to my 5Tb G-Tech ArmorATD USB C HDD. Not Windows ToGo, Full Windows like on your Internal HDD or SSD.

(Here's)[https://youtu.be/BrcBKpE9aQg] a video of Linus Tech Tips attempting to run Windows on an SD Card, exclaiming ToGo the only way to install windows to an external USB device. Normally that would be correct, but when I saw them having issues using rufus burning ToGo, I thought why not use DISM++ or WinNTSetup built into most WinPE ISOs in the wild?

The purpose of avoiding ToGo, it is limited by certain software similar to WinPE. Certain drivers especially don't work out of the box. And as such, it's impossible to install windows to an external USB with all your games on said USB, for a holy self-contained gaming, diagnostic, repair, maintenance drive. Until now

At first, I thought this wouldn't be possible when attempting it, but managed to install Win10 to a USB2 HDD, with the internal EFI partition, but, this is then limited to being booted on the one PC. After countless hours of research and investigation, I finally stumbled onto the answer!!!!!

Requirements: Windows Installed, preferably not as VM, makes the USB handling more difficult Windows ISO USB to burn, preferably HDD or SSD, as apposed to flash drive, or U-Disk Rufus Internet (kinda, not required) Either a Windows key, or a way to activate Windows, like KMS38 DISM++

Step 1. Download (Rufus)[https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/releases/download/v3.13/rufus-3.13p.exe] and place it anywhere like the Desktop, as well as downloading (Windows)[https://tb.32767.ga/get.php?id=1807] and placing it somewhere like Desktop.

Step 2. Burn Windows to USB (check Advanced > show HDD for hard drives and SSD) making sure to check the drop-down for Windows ToGo. Let run and burn completely.

Step 3. Boot up the Windows ToGo USB to make sure it works, boot and EFI partitions on USB work.

Step 4. Return to regular Windows install, Download (DISM++)[https://github.com/Chuyu-Team/Dism-..._d4ba4eb035254b3326d6adc6638bc9c8daea7018.zip] and make sure AntiVirus doesn't have issues with it, it's basically required, and safer than what microsoft gives you IMHO.

Don't perform this step in VM or using Multiple PCs, this drive will be usable on multiple PCs In the end, but if burned on intel and booted on AMD, it probably won't work.

Step 5. Open up DISM++, CTRL+N Click the 1st browse button, locate Windows ISO Click the 2nd browse button, locate Windows ToGo install partition Click the drop-down, select version of Windows you wish to install using your ill-gotten software For the checkboxes on the bottom, select ONLY format Click OK and install.

Step 6. Boot up Real Windows on USB, let reboot a time or two, and get greated by the hard work you just put in, and a real full fat install of Windows.

By replacing Windows ToGo, with a real install of Windows, anything your PC is already capable of, can be stored on a drive, and booted on any/all PCs out there. For my setup, I use a 4Tb exFat partition for decompression of data, and speed of access, and all games are stored on this drive, as well as my game save manager, so I can backup my saves to the USB the games run off of.

If anybody knows how to definitively tell between Windows ToGo and real Windows, please LMK. I currently don't have a screenshot of anything, cause ToGo says Windows 10 Pro activated all the same.

  2. Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

    There is three options:
    Windows 10
    Windows 10 Home
    Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

    System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

    Multi-bootable USB

Hey guys from TPU, couldn't find any specific thread pertaining to the question asked on title. As mentioned, I'm trying to create a bootable USB, but with many specifics boots available.

I've been trying to create one with multiple boot device including one that enables me to run Windows 10 directly on the USB Thumb Drive but to no avail.

The list of bootable images i'm trying to create are

    1. Windows 10 (A full OS running from thumb drive)
    2. Windows 10 ISO (Bootable disk image for fresh install)
    3. MemTest86+

Have tried YUMI or UUI from the website USB PenDrive Linux but as this is my first time, i don't know how am i screwing up or am doing it right.. Anyone got a rough idea on a step by step guide? Thanks!
