Windows 10: Function keys constantly performing back commands in chrome, discord, and other applications

My keyboard has a Fn key which toggles my function keys between being normal function keys and doing things like change the volume or change the brightness of the LEDs in my keyboard. Now when I try to use those other features like changing volume, they don't work and instead pushing f10 once causes my chrome to constantly go back and in other programs do something different constantly. It seems like pressing my function keys once while Fn is toggled on causes them to constantly do something different than their normal function. I've tried running the keyboard troubleshooter but it doesn't det

I understand that you are facing issues in downloading Discord app on your computer. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.



However, please let us know:

• What is the complete error message that you receive when you try to install Discord?
  

• Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer
  Which version of Windows operating system am I running?
  

If you are using an anti-virus, I would suggest you to disable it temporarily and check.



Note: If you disable the security software or firewall, the system might be temporarily exposed to security threats and risks. Please make sure to turn it on after performing the steps.



If disabling the anti-virus doesn’t help, we can perform a Clean Boot on the computer.



Performing a clean boot will start the computer with minimal set of drivers and programs, to determine whether a background program is causing the issue. Some of the Startup programs will not load after performing a clean boot on the computer.
However, that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after finishing the troubleshooting.



To perform a clean boot on the computer refer to the article How to perform a
clean boot in Windows.



If performing a clean boot fixes the issue then, please refer to the section
How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot
to check which program is causing the issue.



Note: Please refer the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting
to boot the computer in to normal mode after troubleshooting.



If Clean Boot doesn’t work, we can create a new user account and check.

a local user or administrator account in Windows 10.



You can also try removing the left over files of Discord by following the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Window logo key + R to open Run window.
   
2. Type %appdata% and press
   Enter.
   
3. From the path that will open delete the %AppData%/Discord and %LocalAppData%/Discord folders.
   
4. Restart your computer in the end.

Control keys performing incorrect commands

This is a problem that recently started on my computer. The control keys (both of them) keep performing the wrong commands. For instance:

• When I have Adobe Illustrator open, when I hit Ctrl + to zoom in, instead it opens the Preferences window (which should be Ctrl-K). Ctrl-K continues to work like normal.
  
• In Chrome, when I hit Ctrl-F using the left control key, it does open the Find window, but at the same time it also moves me to the fifth open tab (which should only occur when I hit Ctrl-5).
  
• But if I hit Ctrl-F using the right control key in Chrome, it opens the Find window but it also pastes whatever text I have in the clipboard (which, of course, should only happen when I hit Ctrl-V).
  

There are other examples, but those are the three that come up regularly. However, a lot other keyboard shortcuts with the control key in them work fine, so I'm not sure what the pattern is.

Has anyone else ever run into this, or does anyone have any suggestions? It's driving me crazy.

 

Chrome glitch

As per the issue description on one of the three users Chrome is not working.
I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

• The account on which you are facing issue with Chrome, does it have the administrator permission?
• Have you check with other browser? Was the result same?
• Is the issue specific to only one application or facing issue with other application too?

First, I would suggest you to use Internet Explorer and see if it brings any difference.
Here are the steps through which you can use Internet Explorer.

• 
  Press the Windows key.
  
• 
  Type Internet Explorer in the search box.
  
• 
  Right click on Internet Explorer
  (Desktop app).
  
• 
  Select Pint to task bar.
  
• 
  Try to use Internet Explorer from there and see if it brings any difference.
  

If you still want to use Chrome then I would suggest you to open the application Chrome in administrator mode and see if it brings any difference. Here are the steps through which you can open Chrome in Administrator mode.

• Press the Windows key or click on Start icon.
• Type Google Chrome.
• Right click on Google Chrome and select the option to Run As Administrator.
• If everything works fine by running chrome in administrator mode then you may pin it to the task bar.
