    Hi all,

Have a query it would be great to get some help with.

I am getting the above error message when I try and access my G:\ drive.

I have previously used the G:\ drive for a variety of things - I had mapped a work network drive here, plus created a folder with photos that I shared to family, and also created a personal work folder that I shared externally to a few select people.

It is part of my computer i.e. not an external drive.

I have turned on my computer today and I get the above error.

No idea what has changed - I have had the error occasionally but it has been fixed in the past by restarting. No luck this time, error wont go away so can't access any of my documents.

Does anyone have an idea of what causes this? Also the G:\ drive has a small blue tickmark next to it.

As far as I know there were no updates between today and yesterday. I have a run a virus scan, no issues. Everything else on my computer works fine.

    Thanks very much in advance.

    :)

  2. "G:\ is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure ..." when plug in my USB drive

I got an error message "G:\ is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure ..." when plug in my USB drive. I am using Windows 10. The USB drive could work with with my PC before (Windows 10 also), same environment.

    This problem suddenly occurred.

I try to plug in the same USB drive in another PC using Windows 7, it works. So the USB drive is healthy. Could you please help me to fix it?

    Thanks.

  3. "G:\ is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure ..." when plug in my USB drive

    1. Go to the drive where the Windows is installed, for most users, it's C:\Users (or ).

    2. Open the folder name with your username.

    3. Right-Click on the Desktop and select Properties.

    4. Under the Location tab, click the Restore Default button.

    5. Restart PC.

    If that does not work...

Uninstall and Reinstall the USB Drivers.

    Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers

    a. Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.

    b. Click on “Device Manager” from that list.

    c. Search for the USB from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove the corrupted drivers from the
    computer.

    d. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and then restart the computer if prompted.

After the restart, please go ahead with the next steps to install the latest drivers and check if that resolves the issue.

    Drive G

This is one of the known issues with the update as Recovery partition should be hidden and is accidentally assigned a drive letter.

    Right-click Start>Command Prompt(admin)

    Type in the following:

    diskpart

    list volume

    select volume 3

Replace 3 with the number of the volume which is assigned a drive letter. (In hundreds of MBs)

    remove letter="G"

Replace G with the Recovery drive letter.

Don't worry, removing a drive letter would not cause any harm to your device.
