Windows 10: Game crashes to desktop screen

I've installed "Knights of the Old Republic II" and it opened, and worked normally until I got to the loading screen and it stuck on that screen. So I ran it under the Windows XP compability mode after trying them each and it finally got past that stuck loading screen only for the game to crash with no error message and just showing me the desktop the game isn't minimized.


I first thought it may be due to the fact that I've installed the game to the Program Files directory and since it couldn't edit that folder that it was giving me an error, so I reinstalled it to another directory yet the problem continued. I don't know what to do.


All my drivers are updated and I'm using Windows 10 Home ver 2004 19041.630.

Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

ive watch my temps and both the cpu and gpu are within normal ranges. when it freezes it simply freezes the image and stops the sound. i must reboot to get back to windows.

You can install Windows 8/8.1 drivers in compatibility mode from Manufacturer's website, if there are no Windows 10 compatible drivers.

Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode:

• Download the updated driver from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right click the driver installation file and select Properties then tap or click the
  Compatibility tab.
• Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box.
  
• Tap the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click
