Windows 10: Games keep minimisng, help!!

As per the title, I've come across a recent issue.

Games that I've been running smoothly for years and have sunk hundreds of hours into have started minimising to the taskbar the second the game boots up and refuse to stay open. I can still hear the game audio and when i hit the window in the taskbar the game shows up fully working for 2 seconds and then minimises again.

I've tried everything I can find on every forum dating all the way back to 2015; disabling game mode, updating gpu, drivers, whole system, restarting pc, uninstalling and reinstalling everything, running with and without compatibility mode etc etc.

Only certain games that I have pre-set to run in windowed mode work.

Yesterday I made 0 changes and the issue resolved itself, even this morning everything was running smoothly but once again i made 0 changes and this afternoon the issue has returned

Any suggestions for what to do?? Every blog page I have found so far has suggested stuff that I've already tried and has done nothing, i don't have any programs installed that would interfere and i dont have any other background programs running.

Please try the steps given below and check if the issue persists:

Step 1:

I suggest you to right click on the game and try to run as administrator and check.

Step 2: if that doesn't help I suggest you to install game in compatibility mode and check:

Follow the steps below on how to install game in compatibility mode:

1. Download the game from the manufacturer’s website and save it on your local disk.

2. Right click on the setup file of the game and select “Properties”.

3. Select “Compatibility” Tab.

4. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select operating system from the drop down list.

5. Let the game install and then check the functionality.

I suggest to run the game in compatibility mode by following the steps below and check if it helps.

  Right click on the ‘Setup’ icon for the game and click on properties.

  Under Compatibility tab, check the option for ‘Run in Compatibility mode’.

  Select Windows 8.1 from the drop down list.

  Click on Apply and then OK.
