Desktop Application (Game) will only start as a Background Process

Were you using the same machine when the game ran properly before ? Have you reinstalled the game since,

or did the problem begin after an Windows update ?

If you reinstalled, are you using old save or configuration files that may have been left in your User\Documents or AppData folders?

What version of the game - disk based, Steam, MS Store, or other retail download (Whoa! Bad reviews. ) ?

"It isn't listed under background apps in the settings menu as it is a DESKTOP APP, not a Win10 app."

I believe this should be - Task Manager > Processes > Background Processes.

Games normally show in the 'Apps' section of the Processes Window once they have loaded.

What gets listed in the Background Processes section is not necessarily related to being a Win10 process or MS app.

It has more to do with weather a program/app is loaded in the background when you boot into Windows.

Software that is listed in the Startup tab in Task Manager as well as non-core Windows functions will get listed in Background Processes,

while the core Windows processes get their own section.

Are you getting error messages ?

When you launch the game what happens ? Nothing, or does it load the setup screens and crash when you load

    the game play ?

    My pc is reacting slow

    Hello Nizho,

There are many possible causes why your computer is running slow. Examples are
not enough hard drive space, too many programs running at startup or in the background, data Corruption and hard disk fragmentation.

Before we proceed, please provide the following:

    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Have you check the status of CPU usage?

For now, we suggest you to perform a

    clean startup
to determine whether background programs are interfering.

We’re looking forward for your response.

  4. Games randomly cause other background processes to be slow to open

Desktop Application (Game) will only start as a Background Process

I have a game which previously ran correctly on both Windows 10 and Windows 8/8.1 (Cities XXL). Now, when I start the game, it will only load as a background process (even when starting in compatibility mode). It isn't listed under background apps in the
settings menu as it is a DESKTOP APP, not a Win10 app.

Why is this happening and how can this be fixed?
