  1. Gaming Laptop Performance Issues

A little while back I transitioned from a 5-year-old desktop to a gaming laptop -- Dell G7 7790. Since then I've had one annoying issue I can't figure out, so if anyone has any thoughts, I'm open.

    1. I have a couple external HDDs and I prefer they not spin down. On my desktop I could set this in the power profile, but there's no such option on this laptop. I did some googling and came across a regedit hack to enable that, but as soon as I did, performance on the laptop overall went to shit. Even simple things like moving windows around in Explorer was lagging. It was like all hardware accelerated graphics were disabled. As soon as I reverted that regedit change, things went back to normal performance wise, but I can't prevent the drives from spinning down.
    2. For whatever reason, games like Stardew Valley seem to run with less lag using the integrated graphics compared to the RTX-2060 (and it's the "full" 2060, not the Max-Q) which I can't really figure out either. I know it's not the greatest game to use as a benchmark, but a 2060 should be able to handle everything Stardew Valley throws at it without even noticing.
    3. Not exactly a performance issue, but I also have a Dell U2718Q monitor and pipe the audio through the the line-out to a set of desktop speakers, but when the display goes to sleep the audio reverts back to the laptop speakers. I've already replaced Dell's craptacular audio drivers and installed some direct from MediaTek's site, even though they're a couple years old, which also cured the popping and delay issues.
