Windows 10: Gaming PC now Idles on 40-60% Memory?

Hello,My Legion Y540 gaming laptop used to run superbly well until around 12-18 months ago, where it now idles on 40% to even 60% memory with very few applications open. I tried to upload a screenshot of my processes, but apparently these forums don't allow new users to post images? I've had this microsoft account for ten years? The largest and most notable usages of memory is Antimalware service executable; I've researched multiple ways to reduce/turn this off and none have worked. All windows updates have been installed and drivers are current. Am I dealing with a memory leak? What can I d

Is 40% Memory Usage at Idle Normal for a Computer with Low Specs?

I have a brand new laptop computer and I have been having some trouble with processes taking up a lot of CPU, disk and memory resources. After a lot of tinkering, I fixed every problem except for having 40% memory usage at idle. I still think having such a high memory usage at idle is a red flag, but then I remembered that this is not my desktop PC, I have very modest specs on this laptop.

• RAM: 4GB
  
• Memory/Storage: 128GB SSD
  
• OS: Windows 10 Pro
  

Maybe 4GB of RAM is barely enough to keep the core processes afloat? Can anyone with some experience on the matter let me know what they think? I'd like to know what is a good baseline for performance so I know when I should stop troubleshooting for leaks/other issues.

 

60% Memory Usage AT IDLE

I have around 60% RAM usage AT IDLE. No apps open. 12 GBs of ram. That's 7.2 GBs of RAM used to do nothing but start the pc up and idle at the desktop. how is this possible? I don't even have any apps open. Some big contributors is "Search" (I'm norwegian
so in the picture it says "Søk"), Antimalvare Service Executable (Windows Defender, which I have disabled but still is active!), and "System" (ntoskrnl.exe which I don't how to disable [it used to use half a gigabyte before but now it only uses 60 megabytes]).

In the picture google chrome is open but it is only around 3% of ram. Closing it and force exiting google chrome from Task Manager makes my RAM usage idle at 57%

This leaves me with 4 and a half GBs of ram. Fallout 4 uses around 4 gbs of ram and just crashed on me after posting this. I can't even use my computer for gaming. I need this fixed or else my $900 I spent on this computer was a waste.
