Windows 10: Gaming services, calculator, phone link, Photos, all stay in the background even after...

Microsoft office click-to-run, Microsoft Text Input Application, Gaming Services, Calculator, Phone Link, and Photos are all running in the background. I use none of these at all, so why are they even running? How do I close them? They won't stay closed when I end the task with task manager, instead just booting back up again.I want these to stop doing that. I don't use them, and don't need them. How do I stop them from doing this?

Gaming Lag and Background Intelligence Transfer Service (BITS)

Let's try disabling the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) via Command Prompt by following the steps below:

• Open Command Prompt.
• Run/type msconfig.
• Click on Services tab.
• Remove check mark on Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
• Click on Apply.
• Restart your computer.

Photos app hogging resources in background

Ian, this suggestion was posted on my other thread:

We understand that not all of users are using the Photos app on Windows 10, if not very often. If you don't want this app to be running on background when not in use, there is a way you can turn this
off. Kindly follow the steps provided below:

• In Cortana, type Privacy Settings
  and press Enter.
• Look for Background apps.
• Look for Photos in the list.
• Flip the switch to Off.
• Restart your computer.

After you restart your computer, you can check if the Photos app is still running in background. You can use these steps to turn off any running background applications as it is not limited to Photos
app alone. In this way, you can conserve a lot of power and process allowance.

I just followed these instructions, and now have to wait to see if it works. I'm hoping it solves your problem, too!

Windows Photos Viewer is an oddity; as I suggested, find a free downloadable image viewer you like, and use that.

I use a program in building my family tree- it lets me use an external viewer- simply whatever is set as default. Here you can see it displays the image in Photoviewer. I imagine Vuescanner requires you to specify the path literally.
