    Garbled in previous Chinese files (including those in Notepad, Matlab and other applications)

    Thanks very much for your help!

    I have set Chinese as the only language option in the language and region setting, but the Chinese in Matlab is still garbled.

    Thanks, will do.

    However, the link that you referred to had another link to Microsoft site and it seems that this garbled characters are related to Avast Browser Cleanup that I'd uninstalled recently.

    Will still run chkdsk and see.

    Yeah according to this it could be a corrupted profile. I haven't tried it yet. If you do and it works please let me know.
