Windows 10: Gateway nv59: "We couldn't update the system partition" Can't install

Does not meet system requirements

Get Important updates: cleared.
Gets windows 10 ready but then it
Checks requirements:

Windows does not prompt any choices,

We couldn't update the system partition
Dialog crashes.
Does not allow one to choose which partition

Gateway Nv59
64 bit Intel 430m Duo core
Windows 7 Premium
500GB hdd
8GB Gskill ram 1333mhz

Take note here that I cannot merge any of the disks, they all result in error or System lock. I can't make the 35MB system disk larger, but Easeus, Windows disk formatter and some other major ones I've tried just say No. But the problem is windows 10 doesn't give me the choice to overwrite the C or H which is quite large enough.

Take note that i just used the SAME flash drive to boot/install windows 10 to a friends lower spec Intel i3 laptop with 1/2 as much ram from Win 7 BASIC. Don't tell me It's not powerful enough..

Windows 10 upgrade from W8.1

My upgrade terminates with the following message: Can't run Windows 10, "We couldn't update the system reserved partition." How can I get around this and complete the installation?

 

Windows 10 will not load

During the upgrage process I get the message that the upgrade failed because "We couldn't update the system reserved partition". Since upgrading my computer with a solid state drive I don't have any partitions. Does this mean I can't install Windows 10?

 

You have a couple choices. Make a bootable USB, CD or DVD of MiniTool Partition Wizard free. Boot from it, that will allow you to shrink C: drive by 450mb, placing the free space at the beginning of it. Then add that 450mb to the System Reserved partition making it 500mb total in size.

OR

Install Macrium Reflect Free. Make an image of your first hard drive, saving the image file to your second hard drive [G:]. Use getosstate.exe (see tutorial linked below) to generate the genuineticket.xml file and save that to G: drive. Boot from a Windows 10 USB/DVD created with the Media Creation Tool. Select custom install, delete all the partitions on the first hard drive and do a clean install to the unallocated space (no need to make any new partitions, Windows 10 will do that). If Windows 10 doesn't activate itself, you can copy the geniuneticket.xml file over to the right folder and it will activate on reboot. Reinstall Macrium Reflect Free and you can mount the partitions saved in the image file to retrieve your data files (documents, pictures, etc.). You will have to re-install any programs/apps you had before from scratch.

Ok, but isn't 500MB too small to install on? Why so small?

Is it possible to just remove the hdd, place it in my inateck dock, wipe it clean then try to install it back and install the OS on there? Or will that fail?

btw, I have nothing I need on this drive, I already deleted most of everything and backed it up

The system reserved partition is for the boot files only, not the operating system. If you are going to do a clean install then follow the tutorial I linked to to ensure that you are able to activate Windows 10. Also, if you don't have your Windows 7 product key, it would be a good idea to run Shockley from this forum first to get it and write it down.

 

Well I guess I bricked my entire system. I used the boot disc for Partition wizard, and just barely moved the front bar to the right so it would be smaller . Isn't that what you said? " placing the free space at the beginning of it." Everything looked ok until I hit apply , and then the C: gateway drive got erased and merged with H. There is now no windows and NO C: label

I tried to install WIndows 10 to it anyways off the boot flash, but I got a similar error that it couldn't create the partition.

I don't know if the boot record exists now.. it's just blank. it says PRIMARY in the wizard, but in WIn 10 setup it says 'system" disk

 

Did you select the custom install option? Then you get a list of disks and partitions. Delete each partition on the first disk until there is only one big unallocated space on the first disk. Select the unallocated space to install to.

 

Delete partition? doesn't that make it "lost?" I tried that before and that's why I'm in another predicament. I went back to the Partition wizard and gave the partition a label/name , and that seemed to make it work into the next step.

BUT, Anyways, I ran into another problem. Halfway into installing, it said "cannot find remaining necessary Windows install files on boot disk." I'm like how and why? So I decided to use media tool to create it again. Here goes another try!

EDIT: yes, I did pick custom install, but it didn't recognize the partition as I said until I made a label. You didn't tell me that making the C drive a tiny bit smaller would also destroy the data and merge it with H. That wasn't the intent

Yes, the partitions will be lost.

Deleting the partitions does the same thing. It makes the hard drive completely blank, and then when installing to the blank unallocated space without any partitions on it will cause Windows 10 to create the partitions it needs.

 

OK NavyLCDR, i deleted the partitions in the Windows 10 selection, except one of the 11GB partitions are grayed out. I'm reinstalling Win 10 and will this fix the "BLACK SCREEN With Flashing underscore?"

 

Update: Everything is clear now!
1. Deleted every partition that would allow me .
two partitions remained, the main C 289GB drive and one 9GB drive that Is unallocated. I can't do a thing with it, format it or rename or merge.

2. I then hooked up an hdmi cable to my tv, this seemed cause a "flicker" on the screen. Then I rebooted the system
3. Installed the OS again
4. When it rebooted I removed the FLASh drive. On other computers, this isn't necessary but for mine it gets stuck if its still in there

I have owned and built several computers and recently just installed WIN 10 on a friend's laptop from scratch. The gateway I have has been the most headache of all time with every problem under the sun, most of which didn't have google search results and I had to come up with my own conclusions

Glad you got it working finally - that is really weird about those partitions not being able to be changed, though.
