Windows 10: Gateway vista factory reset

I got a gateway laptop I factory reset it was working fine but I wanted to clean it up so I did went well but now but now my computer is how do you say connected to the internet I checked the devices the network devices they work fine but when I go into the Internet explorer the factory one in Windows Vista I try to go to a website and it will not let me it says there's a problem with this device is security certificates and then I try to figure all this out and it just does not want to let me get on the internet I reset my modem I reset the router and it still does the same thing I tried to

Factory Reset Microsoft Vista

I own an old laptop with Microsoft Vista and want to factory reset it and remove all the data so that I can sell it away.

I have googled and tried 2 methods:

1) Control Panel -> Backup and Recovery -> Advanced Options

But I couldn't find the option to do a factory reset like how I did for a Windows 7.

2) I have also tried holding f8 when the computer is turning it on. Instructions stated that an option "Repair Your Computer" would be the first in the list, however I do not see this option.

Note that I do not have the CD to reset the laptop.

Please do assist!
