    Generally hate win 10

Ok guys so I decided to post here today on my general dislike of win 10
First upgrade I found I didn't have nearly enough backed up and when done, poof all the rest was gone. Win.old folder was empty. Strike 1
Then I keep getting this error when I start my laptop and done some research and find that a lot of people are getting it, I quite often don't like that when I try to open a link it just sets there like in a timeout mode. Strike 2
I also am not sure but it has a different menu for my hp 8900 and it no longer allows me to control my printer the way I want to. I have looked and so far no new drivers from hp.
Today it has started to tell me that when I am in a secure site( my anthem health) that "OPPS! something went wrong and Edge can not find that page" what a bunch of crap. Strike 3

I wish I had NEVER upgraded to 10 as I understood 7 really well and was very happy with it. The only reason that so many did upgrade was it was free and now MS in my opinion has a good big bunch of garbage that they pushed out to us. I am really not in any mood to have to spend countless hrs trying to get this customized to me, why cant they just have left things alone and not pushed it on to us??? XP and 7 were GREAT and 10.... well what a piece of trash!!*Mad*Mad*Mad*Mad*Mad

    :)

    Hi:

My HP 8600 Premium AIO works just fine under Win10 (albeit an OEM system, not an upgrade from Win7/8/8.1), as well as on my two Win7 systems.
It took about 5 minutes to download and install the HP software/drivers.
    No muss, no fuss.

If you have an 8900, which is even newer than my 8600, then I am certain Win10 would be supported.

    I suggest the following:
    • Download and save either the basic drivers or the full driver/software/bloatware package for the 8900 directly from the HP drivers site: HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support
    • Fully uninstall the existing HP drivers/software from your computer and manually remove any leftover folders; you may also need to power off the printer and temporarily disconnect it from the computer (USB? network? Wifi?)
    • Reboot
    • Reinstall the software/drivers using the fresh copy you downloaded in step #1

The setup wizard is pretty intuitive and trouble-free.
EDIT: And the HP site also has instructions and tutorials (including videos, I think) for each model.
But, if your HP is still under warranty, then you might try their phone support. I have found it to be quite good - they can walk you through the installation and setup process. >>You will need your model # and Serial # when you call.

    Hope this helps,
    MM

dwtessie, it is a new Operating System, you should expect to have to learn some new ways of doing things. It was the same going from XP to Windows 7. If you don't like Edge, use whatever browser you like. Just set whichever browser you like as the default browser (Default Apps - Choose in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums)

If you have specific problems or questions we would be happy to try and help, just as @MoxieMomma did with suggestions about your printer. Not everyone is having the problems you are having.

  6. I am loving windows 10 So far.. Much Quicker and totally agree with essenbe . whenever a new OS comes in there are issues.. and Bugs.
If you are not ready to deal with them avoid updating for atleast 2 years.. When a service pack or Major update is released.

  7. If everything was left the same, then people like you would be ripping Microsoft for not innovating or not improving. Technology is a bad place to be if you aren't willing to stay current or learn anything new. That being said, as with any new OS, there is always a small learning curve. We're rolling out Windows 10 to our 140 employees, who all ran Windows 7. There have been very few complaints, and even the non-tech-savvy ones have made the switch easily.

What happens when you buy a new car and the dashboard is completely different than your previous one? Do you through a tantrum because it takes a few seconds to learn how to turn on the radio or adjust the climate control settings?

Microsoft gave us a very good, solid OS for free. If you are having specific troubles, we'll be glad to help. But you aren't going to find much sympathy on a rant just because you aren't willing to learn a few simple steps.

    dwtessie:

According to a search, your PC came with Win7 preinstalled -- and the Win7 PCs have the poorest record of success in Upgrading to Win10, primarily due to the shortage of OEM Win10 drivers for those older PCs.

I have five Win7 PCs that I tried to upgrade to Win10: two failed miserably, totally trashing the PCs; two went reasonably well with only a few drivers to be hunted down, and one went great -- no problems.

So, that gives me a success rate of 60% on the upgrades, and other tech sites are reporting success rates much higher -- closer to 90%.

So yeah, the older PCs fare poorly -- but that it to be expected.

Good way to chase a newbie away. As for your dashboard. Do you buy your cars sight unseen? Most people test drive a few models until they find one they like.

Tessie - give it a chance. I agree with Ensebbe. You'll have to get used to some changes but in the end it's a cleaner, smaller and faster OS then 7 was. I also recommend backing up your data files and doing a clean install. That said I consider myself a pretty decent semipower user and my GW AIO gave me a few fits with Win10 starting with the upgrade refusing to completely install. Post you problems here and our community will help you find the solutions.

I donot hate W10, but I donot like it either.
I spent many hours for two PC's to let them run as smoothly with my favorite programmes as with W7.
At the end they run nicely under W10 with all settings at maximum privacy and with all my old programmes (and no new apps).
But I donot not see any advantage in W10 or hardly any new features, which are interesting for me. In fact, most of the many programmes I use are not of MS origin.

Would like to know more information as to what was exactly the problems with #2 and #3. Just because the OP had an issue, does not meant that the whole wide world is having issues. As for doing a search on those problems. You will find that the majority of searches that come up are duplicates pulled from the main website. In other words if they are not the original site, it is Click Bait.

That would be 99.99% of the software out there that is not owned or licensed by Microsoft. 10 finally got the RAM hog issue that 7 had, along with better use of the APU/CPU/GPU than 7 was not able to do.

I have to agree with the OP...

I just spent over 20+ hours trying to get my Win 7 system upgraded. It had 10 once installed long ago so it was approved to accept the update. I dropped in an SSD to swap out my HHD, so this was essentially a clean install.

But what a nightmarish ordeal this turned into, it wouldn't install my network printer, it never recognized my WD MyCloud Drives (2x 4TBs), several of my softwares wouldn't run. I finally concluded the only good thing about 10, is perhaps DirectX 12, other than that, I truly believe it to be step backwards. I ended up reloading 8.0, to PRO to 8.1.. That is probably better for me anyway as gaming with Windows 8.1 has proven to be actually faster than 10. In my opinion, 8.1 is much more stable at this stage of the game..

Maybe in a couple of years from now, it will get all sorted out.

  15. HP Wireless LaserJet P1102W, and HP Deskjet F4100 here, both are auto detected and the drivers installed by Windows. Everything works with no need for manual install of any HP supplied drivers.
Two long in the tooth desktop PC's, ASUS M4N68T-M V2 and an older M2N68-AM SE2. Both work with the current, stock Windows supplied drivers. Both are Windows 7 era hardware.

I've had glitches with upgrades. Those issues were gone on a clean install though.
You can switch back to IE if you wish, you don't have to use Edge, I don't.
You should be able to Roll Back to Windows 7. If your Windows.old really is empty it won't work. Otherwise it should be doable.
There are lots of examples of the Windows 10's look and feel on the Internet. Enough examples I think, that if you took the time to look, you would have seen what you were going to get.
If you don't like it you don't like it. It's not Windows 7 and never ever claimed to be.
If you want to try and sort some of your issues there are plenty of people here to help, just ask and we'll post tutorials etc.
