Windows 10: "Generic MassStorageClass USB Device" VS. "USB Mass Storage Device USB Device"

I have a piece of software that I MUST use to make flash cards for some equipment. The flash cards are essentially the equipment's hard drive and they have a mix of Linux and Windows partitions. Here is the problem I'm having...I have a flash card reader made by Onn that takes CF, SC or MicroSD cards. We only use the CF part. It has never been an issue. The software finds the card, reads and writes as it needs to, no problem. The issue with the Onn card reader is that it is cheap, and I have constant issues with the micro USB connector failing. So, I wanted to get a better quality card reader/

Multiple "Generic MassStorageClass USB Device" entries in Device Manager

Having four entries "Generic MassStorageClass USB Device" under "Disk drives" in Device Manager:





The File Explorer, even the whole system (Windows 10) is incredible slow. There are
no USB sticks etc. attached. The only entry that makes sense is ST3500312CS which is the hard disc drive. Also shortcuts to .exe take decades to launch. After removing the "Generic MassStorageClass
USB Device" the issue seems to be gone, but reoccurs after some time ....

When uninstalling the "Generic MassStorageClass USB Device" they appear again and again ... There are also no drive letters associated to those "Generic MassStorageClass USB Device".

This is very frustrating, because my old laptop (bought February 2012) is much faster than my newly bought (2017) desktop PC ... Both running Windows 10 ...

Any suggestions?

 

how to change "USB attached SCSI mass storage device" to "USB mass storage device"

Hi there:

I have a Seagate USB portable drive and I mainly use it to connect to my ASUS Oplay! media player to watch the content on TV.

This device use to be an USB mass storage device.

Recently, I noticed whenever I eject my seagte portable drive, the device is showing as ""USB attached SCSI mass storage device" instead of a regular "USB mass storage device". This is when my media player stopped recognising the portable drive (showing
the device is not supported). The portable drive works fine on my Windows 10 PC, just not recognising by my media player anymore.

Wondering if anyone can point out how I can restore my portable hard drive back to a generic USB mass storage device instead of being a "USB attached SCSI mass storage device".

Thanks for your reply. Removing (unplugging) Card-Reader also removes "Generic MassStorageClass USB Device" entries from Device Manager. Performance seems to be a bit better but not as fast as it could be ...
