LIVE CHAT SCAM: Hello I don't use Reddit that much but I don't know where to turn. Has anyone else been having weird occurrences with Microsoft Live Chat support? I can't tell if it's 100% a scam. The first time I tried was through the Get Help app on the laptop itself. It connected me with a "Support Advocate" who first asked for my phone number "in case we get disconnected." Then they asked me for my email to "verify my account." I honestly don't remember doing this much before getting assistance.

Then they asked for the verification code for my email. I gave them my hotmail which I use for my windows stuff, and then they sent this fishy email that looked weird. I gave them the code when the "agent" said something like "that is the wrong verification code, please send the right one Get Help App - Support Chat Scam? :)"

The smiley face really threw me off and I was immediately turned off because I gave them the code from the email I had just provided. I disconnected the chat immediately and then saw that I had another code on my gmail (which is my secure backup email for the hotmail). I figured this was an attempt to gain access to my Windows account if I had gave them the gmail code.

To see if I could repeat this, I tried joining a Windows Live Chat through the internet browser instead of the Get Help app. It then said Connect to an Advocate which was linked (also found this odd). Clicked it anyways because I was curious if it was another hack attempt. Low and Behold, a new window appeared which the URL said "Not Secure."

What the heck is going on Microsoft?! Any response would be helpful.

    Scammed by fake support chat

I was scammed by a fake support chat line on Quicken yesterday. I unfortunately gave him access to my Windows 10 laptop to solve my Quicken problem. He installed Advanced Identity Protector software that exposed "supposed" trouble with Identity Traces.
He became more and more suspicious and I stopped talking to him after too much time. Should I do anything to protect my identity and data? I am upset and unsure of the next steps I should take.
