Windows 10: Getting a message “you can’t sign in with this account. Try a different account.” at login...

Hi there, I’m getting the above message when I try to log in to my computer. I’m worried this happened because the account windows was purchased under was linked to a school account that no longer exists. Am I screwed in terms of access to all of my data or is there a way to get the account transferred over to my current email account that I’m not aware of?Thanks!

Thanks for posting here and so sorry to know you have a sign in problem.



As you mentioned "my PC didn't have an administrator account", so before we can start I would like to know if you are able to login in the safe mode? Since any troubleshoot step will need administrator privilege, if the current administrator account is the only administrator account we have, then I am afraid it would be very hard for us to fix this problem. In this case, the eaiser way for us to go is mount the hard disk on a different computer, backup all the data, then reinstall Windows.

Sign in Store with Different Account in Windows 10

Great - this is definitely a good change - it proves MS do listen to feedback.

Edit: I am puzzled now as your screens are different to mine!

I will post image when I get on my pc.

Edit 2: This is interesting. You get the new link first time you set Store to login to a new account (ie one not shown initially) but if you create a new one, sign out, then select same (now existing) MS account, you do not get the link!
