Windows 10: Getting the pop up "How do you want to open this file" when I search for an excel file...

Hi, Whenever I search for an excel file using the windows taskbar search functionality, I get a pop up asking me "How do you want to open this file" I have already checked the option which says "Always use this app to open .xls files"I dont face this problem when I directly navigate to the file and open the file in question. Also Excel is set as the default file for .xls, .xlsm, .xlsx, .xlsb files. So that isn't an issue. Please help finding a solution as my workflow is heavily dependent on using the search functionality. Windows 11 on a Lenovo Yoga 920 RegardsAmar

CSV files used to open in Excel....not now!

Hi, you say Excel is installed. Does it run normally?

You can't find Excel in (an unspecified) list of applications. I don't know which list that is for sure.

For example, in the list related to:
- rt click a file. Open With
- this list:



- this list:




- some other list...

If Excel does not appear in the above, I suggest you repair your office installation.

Maybe the above gives you some ideas. Otherwise please post a screenshot of where you think you should see it but don't. Thanks.

 

opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

 

Excel - File open - hover over files - file names do not show up

Office 365 / Windows 10 x64

Excel: File > Open shows a list of filenames.
Due to the limited space, long file names are cut off, regretfully so.
(There is a lot of unused empty space on the right of the File - Open dialog)

Problem: in case long file names with almost identical names it sometimes is difficult to select the one: the differences between these files are displayed. See attachment. One file is 02-2021 the other 02-2020, or vice versa?

Now, I suppose..., when hovering over the files, a pop-up would show up displaying the full file name(?)
Repeat: suppose, as with me it never did.

However, if my assumption is correct and indeed a pop-up should show up, then I wonder what could prevent this from happening.

Any suggestions?
