Windows 10: Getting this annoying application error dialog pop up on shutdown/logoff

It's been within the last couple of updates but whenever I logoff from the system or trigger a shutdown/restart, the display will switch to the Logon UI and then I'll get an error pop up from Explorer.exe that memory cannot be written too and sometimes it will just proceed and logoff/shutdown/restart, but most of the time it's causing Windows to pop up the "This application is blocking shutdown" dialog and won't proceed until I click OK to dismiss the dialog.

I thought initially that this was something with my machine but I've now encountered this on a Server 2019 virtual machine running on a different computer. A bit of troubleshooting seems to link it to whenever the Start Menu has been used.

If I go the entire session without touching the Start Menu, the error never appears and that seems to apply on my main workstation as well as this Server 2019 VM I have.

Does anyone have any pointers, maybes Jen or another Softie can chime in? I really don't want to have to work around another bug in Windows.

Hi, the shutdown sound simply doesn't have time to play in most cases. That's been discussed previously on tenforums.

I don't see log on/off sounds listed- did you add those options? e.g.

Thank you for the reply, your recommendation "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups" is already checked. I am sure that it is not a browser problem as i am getting same pop up suggesting other software's.

I knew about that.

I set them as something else, so it sounds like XP, if that's what you're asking.
