Getting this error when trying to watch a video with the Movies & TV player.

Windows Movies and TV 'Missing codec' error when trying to play any video, error code 0x887a0004

Hello, whenever I want to watch a movie on my PC or literally any video with movies and TV, I get this error when opening the video up, if I press ok the video doesn't play but the audio does, this issue doesn't exist while using VLC or any other player,
but it's always more convenient to just use movies and tv for this stuff, anyone know the fix for this?

 

Movies & TV: Error when trying to watch movie

When I press "Watch", it opens Movies & TV, it asks me to log in and then it throws error 0x80004005.

I already tried to reset the app, but it didn't work

Hello, I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

It sounds like Movies & TV player has lost it's default to the new Media Player. This may be due to an Update. I'll show you how to change it back or if that doesn't work how to troubleshoot the error you're getting or repair Movies & TV app:

1) Check in Windows Settings > Default Apps > Set default by App > Movies & TV, change Media Player to Movies & TV app, Set as Default. Now try opening a Movies & TV video again.
