    Getting Windows Ready

    Hello All,

I hope this is the appropriate forum for this question.

I was having an issue connecting wo something I had in the and think it was a java issue (it works fine on my desktop, not so much on my laptop and I'm not even sure java is on my desktop). I know it installs what it needs when I connect, so I figured I'd uninstall Java and let it set up again when I connected. I uninstalled everything Java from my laptop and restarted, and now it's been sitting on the screen that says "Getting Windows ready Don't turn off your computer" for quite some time.

I'm wondering how long it might normally stay like this vs when I should start to panic, and what to do if it never restarts. Can anyone help?

    :)

    Windows Getting Ready

Why is my laptop stuck on "getting windows ready" and how do I get past this issue? It's already been 3 hours and windows is still getting ready. I've never seen it take this long before and I didn't do anything but attempt to restart it my laptop. Is
this a serious problem? What can I do to correct this?

Where did you install java from? java.com?

I've never had to reboot after installing java so perhaps it is coincidentally installing some other Windows update which was triggered when you restarted.

I'd leave it half an hour and if nothing changes just hard power off. I know it says you shouldn't but it never caused a problem for me.

I don't recall where I installed java from originally, or it if was something I accessed that did it for me, but what I did this morning was uninstall what was out there. I have not tried to reinstall it yet. I'm sure it's been spinning for well over a half hour, but maybe I'll give it another 30 minutes and try shutting it down if that won't cause any problems.

I'd leave it as long as you can but eventually you'll have no choice *Sad

Turning off during updates has never caused me a problem so hopefully you'll be OK. If you do turn off then power-up again and then immediately to another restart to check that is OK before doing anything else.

It finally restarted so yay to that. But I'm still not able to do what I need to so I guess it's time for another thread on that.

I would open another, yes. You could have a look in Installed Updates and see if something was installed today out of interest.

    Partially good news anyway *Smile
