  1. GF is going to kill me - Task bar keeps loading & extremely slow performance

So yeah, my gf is going to kill me. She was experiencing some issues with her laptop being very slow, so I told her that I will fix it by formatting it, 100% guaranteed. Well I did not know that slow performance sometimes cannot be solved by a format.

I did a clean format, but not only is the laptop is still slow, but now whenever I turn it on I get one of the following cases:

    1. It logs in in like 2-3 minutes, with the taskbar running normally (best case, very rare).

    2. It remains stuck on "Windows is getting ready" screen, so I have to kill the power manually by pressing the power button.

    3. It logs in in like 2-3 minutes, with the taskbar being frozen and loading infinitely (and sometimes desktop icons keep loading). This is the most frequent scenario, and it is resolved only if I press Alt+F4 where the screen goes blank for a second and everything goes back to normal.

Whenever I check the task manager I find that the disk usage is 100%, before and even after the format in all mentioned cases above. My gf wants to take the laptop tomorrow morning (12 hours in my timezone) and she is really annoyed by the fact that I made her laptop even worse.

The laptop (Toshiba L500) is old, with Core2Duo processor, 3 GB RAM, and 240 GB HDD.

Please, this is call for help.

  3. Slow Windows performance

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    1) Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel

    2) Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

    3) Click on View all on the left navigation pane.

    4) Click on System maintenance.

    5) Click on Advanced on the System maintenance dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials
    if required).

    6) Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the System maintenance troubleshooter.
