Windows 10: Ghost icon continuously reappears any time I launch full screen games

This one is a weird one. I keep all of my game shortcuts in individual folders on my desktop, organized by client Steam game shortcuts go into a Steam folder, GOG game shortcuts go into a GOG folder, etc.. Whenever I download a game from one of the clients, it'll ask if I want to create a desktop shortcut. After the game is installed, I'll move the shortcut to the appropriate folder. Here's where the problem occurs: When I launch a game that runs in full screen any game, not specifically the game I just downloaded, Windows will create a ghost icon of the last game I downloaded back on the desktop. It's just a generic looking icon, but the title of the game is there. It also doesn't do anything when clicked. When I try to delete it, I get an error message saying,


Could not find this item.

This is no longer located in C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop. Verify the item's location and try again.


Obviously it's no longer in that location because I've moved it to a different folder on the desktop. The only trick I can use to get rid of it is to try and add it to a compressed folder, which creates another error because there's not actually anything in the location and the icon disappears. The problem is that as soon as I launch another game that runs in full screen, that same icon will reappear when I exit out of the game. I can circumvent it by not having the game client create a shortcut when I download it, but sometimes I forget to uncheck the box. It'll also stop happening if I uninstall the game the ghost icon belongs to.


Any advice? It's kind of trivial as I can easily get rid of the ghost icon, I'd just rather it not have to repeat the process over and over again every time I exit out of a game.

Icons reappear after deleted from Desktop

When I (create a file on the desktop or save-to the desktop) then later decide to delete that file a ghost icon of that file will reappear after opening a full screen program or signing-out. The work-a-round is easy enough: Just right click and refresh the
screen and the ghost icon disappears. Scaling on W10 for me has been 125% for five years with no similar glitch as this. Someone got a cure? A regedit maybe? Please, not driver or firmware update suggestions, I have already tried those fixes.

This is happening with W10 v2004 build: 19041.508

Hopefully this will be addressed in a WU soon.

 

Ghost router

Have since discovered the router (presumably a ghost as the icon was different) under System. I deleted it but it returned on rebooting Windows with the Router powered up after after the reboot.

The ghost reappeared in "devices and printers".
