Windows 10: Give Local account with Admin rights, same access as "Administrator"?`

I have discovered that there is a difference between the original local "Administrator" account and my (local) admin account. For instance my admin account cannot add a new user, whereas "Administrator" can.

I absolutely do not want an MS online account - I want to have a local Admin account (not "Administrator" itself) but with the same rights as Administrator, for example being able to add a new user.

This was possible in previous versions of Windows - can it still be achieved and if so, how?

I'm going to try to do that and then eliminate the MS user account. Just to make sure, this won't take anything away from my Administrator privilege/access as long as I give full admin rights to the new (local) account. Right?

Had the same issue, but it was only associated with one of the profiles on the PC. I rebuilt the profile and it resolved the issue. Especially in WIn10, it's a good idea to create a separate local account (I call mine "Maintenance") give it Local admin
access, then use that account as a "repair" account where you can rebuild profiles or test other issues.

 

You need to add your new local account to the administrators group. To do this log in with your original Administrator account. Then open an elevated command prompt (right click on start and select Command Prompt (admin).

Then type: net localgroup administrators "UserName" /add

where UserName is the name of your new local account.

You can check which users belong to the various groups with these commands:
net localgroup guests
net localgroup users
net localgroup administrators

 

I'm not sure what you mean. Of course any administrator account can add users, not just Administrator. If it can't there is something else wrong.

Are you changing the account type to Administrator?
