3 Annoying Start Menu Problems with Windows 10 after successful upgrade...

Found the solution to Problem #3. I have to give credit to someone on superuser forum.

Windows 10 Start Right-Click Context Menu Items Don't Open

The problem is a certain context menu item that is installed. I used CCleaner tool and located the context menus and disabled them to isolate the one that is not working correctly. All of a sudden start menu right-clicking items worked. I can now launch
    control panel, etc...

In my case it was the QuickSFV item.

Hope it works for you too!

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. I will assist you with this.

Please follow the methods below and see if it helps to resolve the issue.

    Method 1:

I suggest you to boot the computer to Safe Mode and check if the issue occurs or not. If not, I would suggest you to set the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

Boot the computer to Safe Mode. In Safe Mode computer starts
with minimal set of drivers and files.

    Step 2:

If the issue do not occur in Safe Mode, perform a clean boot and check. Setting the system in a clean boot state will help to identify if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Warning: After clean boot troubleshooting steps, refer to the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot"
in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

    Method 2:

If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform SFC (System File Checker) Scan from Safe Mode and check if it helps. SFC scan will scan for corrupt system files on the computer and replace them.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

    Hope this helps.

If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.

Yep! Better to change permissions manually on individual objects.

This isn't as simple as it sounds.

Taking ownership is a relatively simple operation, with a few complicating factors. But owning a file or folder doesn't necessarily grant you any permissions to it. Most files and folders do not have explicitly assigned permissions but inherit them from a higher level folder. To assign explicit permissions you first have to break inheritance. When you do that you have to decide whether to explicitly assign the previously inherited permissions or remove them. Which you would choose depends on the purpose, which no context menu could know. And who do you assign permissions to? Your own account or the primary group you belong to, such as the administrators group?

Windows does not have a built in capability to do what you want. I think this was a wise decision. It doesn't give you the control necessary to do it right and makes it too easy to do dangerous things.

Windows was designed to grant you only the permissions you need. From a security standpoint, which has become increasingly important in recent years, this is a good thing. An admin level account can take ownership and grant whatever permissions are needed, but you had better understand what you are doing or security or functionality may be compromised. Windows security is complex and takes some real work to understand.
