  1. Glitch in Windows 10

That hurts! If you don't already have that usb installation key made up you better get busy then or you might get stuck royally without anything to resort to! Now this is where you need to be looking through the Tutorials>Installation guides to get familiar with how to get things since you are going to be learning them rather fast anyways! *Eek*Biggrin They comin' to git ya!

How do you use the MC tool to create one of those USB Installation Keys as they were called back when 7 was beta, RC, and then RTM/Retail? How to Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

The other guide I wanted to point you to explains how to create a bootable iso disk image from what gets placed on the drive. What this one explains is how to use another tool you have to download in order to convert the ESO file into an ISO. The 10 installer tends to leave some files like this one lying around for options like the PC Refresh or you can see to ir a bootable iso makes it onto a flash drive. ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File

Once you are able to get the flash drive made up and boot from that you can look over the Advanced options in the F8 menu you have to wait several minutes for. That is a bit slow! From there you can troubleshoot things as well as you can before going with the PC Refresh where you have the option to save personal files or simply nuke the present upgrade for a fresh start with far less buggyness typically seen with upgrade installs to start with since they all to often simply carry over the hidden goofs an older version had tucked away without your notice at times!

  2. Night Hawk - lots of info here - at my speed it will take a day or to read fully and test.

I put W10 on VMware on a new - hardly used laptop - and then took the full update.

Intended from start to do a clean install - and tried to make an ISO.

Used the MC - ISO disc - but it refused to make a file.

What is best option to go with ?

  3. Hello there! skarebrian Welcome to the Ten Forums! *Smile It seems that more new members end up on the thread here.

The options should bring to the choice of either burning a dvd with a small line of text below the first item in larger print showing the option to create media instead and when not opting to write to usb flash drive it conitnues on and you then are prompted where to save the iso image either in the Downloads folder found in users or a folder you have ready to receive it.

Once it's on the drive you can find other options for seeing the iso made bootable as it is written to a 4gb or larger like 8gb flash drive. The best advice on how to proceed anyone can give you is go into the tutorial section and look in the Installation guides area. That is where the instructions are informative but a little easier for most to follow since they are also pictorial. That can serve well as a teaching aid when you are trying to learn something new about how to go about things.

One thing to note however is that several of the guides actually were first posted during the 4th quarter of 2014 while 10 wasn't even ready for public beta testing in the Technical Preview form but sill in the early Alpha stages. It is recommended that only the real tech savay people try to start running those early builds which are still in their infancies and have many bugs to be worked out long before we ever see them! So when you see Product key being mentioned note thoy were written later when the TP builds did require a key from a Windows Insider Program list of keys intended for those builds only.

  4. Glitch in Windows 10

Night Hawk, I found out what the issue was. It was a program. That program was Autodesk360 that needed to be removed or updated. It's my sister's computer, and since she doesn't use it anymore, we just removed it all together. So, now the issue is fixed.

  5. There you go! *Roflmao2*Thumbs At least that was a "Quick Fix" that works out well for you! Doesn't it fit? After all the trouble it turns out to be just one little thing to gum up the works! *Eek

But I still highly recommend reviewing the guides just the same and seeing to it you make up a Recovery Drive for being able to troubleshoot other things that could come up and where you may not be able to get into the recovery options on startup. That can also get things going for you before you decide you have to go further then needed to solve a problem. That can be anything from W10 not starting up due to a disk error or corrupt system file to something just under the need to use the PC Refresh option which should be the last resort except for initial upgrade issues where that can see all setup files do their jobs to see 10 go on fully.

  6. Inspired, I went a different route, didn´t think you could make a USB boot except on the computer that already had the W10 update. Anyway took my main PC ( W 8.1) and used the download as described here https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...tallation.html ( from Shawn )

That worked well and then moved my USB to the W10 computer and made a clean install with the setup.exe.
By the way - the USB did not boot - it ran from File Explorer.
Took a little time but all went well - stopped at point 24, ( need to think some more).

Everything that didn´t work before seems to work OK now - still not tested Store, and lots of my programs to add in.

Tenforums really works, thanks to all.

  7. The guides are well written since Shawn started working with the early stages of 10 during the last half of 2014! He has gone over the types of things one person alone typically wouldn't see when preparing the guides and still occasionally may need to update afew of them as things progress.

From what you are saying about running from File Explorer that would still be considered an upgrade installation to repair 10 as had been the method previously used for problems on 7. You should notice right off that your other programs and apps will tend to go on much easier!

Here I couldn't even get the Acronis True Image Home 2010 version to go on while the WD free edition I had stored on the drive did with the first buggy upgrade. I just replaced that with the full version that went right on with a simple reboot afterwards to finish things up! At least now you should be set to go! *Thumbs
