  1. Gmail and .MP4 and other Att. not playing directly.

In the Gmail C'nity I can see complaints about it with very little positive replies. Then I stumbled on this forum 'microsoft' and a thread or whatever it's call about someone not being able to play video from email or even when they are DL. Some Technician advised that Windows live as discontinue such direct playing if i understood correctly quite a while ago. The thread is actually from the 5 of June 2019 and titled "Play of MP4 attachments to emails"2 things puzzled me about this thread, 1 very few people participated, 2 The technician was a little annoy about bad rating ! But the author

    Playing MP4 files

MP4 is a container file, a lot depends on the codecs within that.
MP4 can be played with Windows 10 with Films & TV, Photos, Windows Media Player, and VLC.
If those can't then there must be something odd/unusual in the file.

Right click the File > Properties > Details Tab.
see if that gives you more info, should be some info on the video/audio but not codecs.

Try the suggestions from post #3.

You have to be careful as viruses are propogated by people simply changing the filename extension and auto-forwarding via an infected PC and a compromised address list.
So a targeted scan with AV is necessary for every file attachement even if apparently from someone you know.

    Play MP4 in Media PLayer

I am using mp4 files myself. Rather heavily. The files I have use the native h264 codecs for video and also something pretty standard for audio and they work. MP4 is a container format and I vaguely remember I once had a file, that did not play.

I am not a real expert here, but you can try this:

Download the static Windows version of ffmpeg and check your mp4 file with ffprobe.exe. It will output a bunch of information about that file, including the codecs used inside it. Knowing these codecs is a first step on the way to a solution.
