Windows 10: Good 'Ol Microsoft Photo Editor - Fix So It Will Run With Windows 10?

I've been using Microsoft Photo Editor for the last 20 years, on literally dozens of computers - needed outside help (from the 7 Forum) for a fix 4-5 years ago, looks like I need it again from the Windows 10 experts.

I upgraded four HP computers from 7 and 8.1 to 10 last weekend with no apparent issues, but one of the 8.1 notebooks (which had the "fixed" version of Photoed.exe installed and worked fine before the upgrade) no longer opens photos with Microsoft Photo Editor, nor will MPE launch by clicking the MPE icon on the desktop. I finally gave up yesterday and downloaded Irfanview, which works fine, but I prefer the simple look and feel of Photo Editor.

Has anyone out there been able to get a "fix" that lets Photo Editor run correctly with Windows 10 after having it fail at the upgrade?

The computer in question is an HP-15T notebook, model 15t-r100, new 6/15/2015, 8GB memory, Intel 4th Gen Core i5-4210U Dual-Core processor, Intel HD Graphics 4400.

Windows 10 - apps becoming non-functional

I've been having a number of issues lately with programs becoming unstable or non-functional.

Windows 10 Calc frequently stops running then a few days later start to work again. Photo Editor, Cortana, Edge and the Start Button stopped working too. I removed the latest update KB3140768 and Edge and the Start button began working again as well as Calc.
Photo Editor and Cortana however, are still non-functional. Can't type anything in Cortana's search box. Trying to open a jpg using Photo Editor results in 'Class not registered' error. I can't find the photo Editor anywhere on the PC.

Any idea what is going on?

Did a recent update introduce bugs waiting to be fixed? It's not the first time a patch caused more damage than good.

I used Paint Photo Editor by Microsoft in my photo and I Liked it and I think this is one of the best so far for me...........but I

do not liked when Paint Photo Editor erased what I did to my photos .........why is it that when I edited my photos it was erased

and I have to put it back ..always ........Please in erasing or removing something that I did on my photos it's not good for you have

A problem may exist in that your Notebook is running the 64-bit version of Windows and as I recall PhotoEditor was only 32-bit [or maybe 16-bit from Win95/98]. Some types of older programs stumble when trying to use on a better computer.

 

Thanks for the response - I'll double-check that. As I recall, it was running the 64-bit version of the "fix". *Wink

 

If the program was originally on the Win7 computer it most likely was/is the 32-bit version as only the Pro version of Win7 as available was either 32-bit or 64-bit depending upon the hardware.

 

Thanks - it was originally on the computer with Windows 8.1 (64-bit) before the W10 upgrade.
