Windows 10: Goodix Fingerprint SPI Device issue

Hi Everyone,


After updating to Windows 10, my computer's fingerprint reader stopped working. After searching around, I found it but it was hidden. I searched online on what I could do to get it to work again in order to use Windows Hello when I got to my account settings, it was saying that Windows Hello could not recognize any biometric devices. Thought I had found a solution online which was to go to my settings, update & security, recovery, and selecting advance start-up. At this point the computer began to reboot and one option was to disable driver authentication service it was one of the options in start up troubleshooting and allow the computer to reboot. After this step, the biometic driver appeared as not hidden and in accounts I was able to add the Windows Hello fingerprint option. However, once I shut the computer off and go to reuse the computer at a later time or date, once I start the computer, it does not ask me for my fingerprint but for my four digit code which I input and the computer starts fine... BUT... EVERYTHING mentioned above would need to get done again, because its for some reason not picking up on the biometric device. I have reached out to Goodix and to LG and they assured me that the drivers of it are up to date and work fine with Windows 10. I can tell you first hand, its not work with Windows 10. What can I do to fix this? Can someone at Microsoft look into this for all users who might have the same problem with their biometric devices after upgrading to Windows 10???


For the record my computer is an LG Gram 17Z990-RA

Fingerprint issue/Power Management

already tried the credentials service one, not of any help. I guess the only fix is from the power management tab

1. Press Windows Key + X and choose Device Manager from the list

2. When Device Manager opens, locate your fingerprint reader. It should be located in Biometric Devices section.

3.Right click your fingerprint reader and choose Properties

4. Navigate to Power Management tab and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

5. Click OK to save changes.


I want to follow this step but I cannot find the power management tab.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it fixes the issue.

Method 1: Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

Follow these steps to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter:

• Press Windows key + W and type troubleshooting.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click Hardware and Devices.
• Follow the on-screen instruction to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall the driver

I suggest you to try uninstall the fingerprint
drivers check if it works for you.

Follow the steps to uninstall the Fingerprint
drivers:

• Press Windows Key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Right-click on the Fingerprint device listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.
• Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Try to access the device manufacturer's website and download and install the latest chipset and Fingerprint
drivers.

Method 3

If issue still persists, I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the Fingerprint
drivers in Compatibility mode and check if it works:

Follow the steps to uninstall the Fingerprint
driver:

• Press Windows Key + X key.
• Click on Device Manager.
• Right-click on the Fingerprint device listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.
• Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Now download the drivers the manufacturer website and install it in Windows 8.1 compatibility mode. Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in compatibility mode:

• Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.
• Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 8.1 operating system from the drop down.
• Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

Unable to set up windows hello face and fingerprint.

Restart (not Shut Down) your laptop

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

Do you see a Biometric Devices section in the list and if so, expand that section, do you see the Goodix Fingerprint Sensor listed there?
