Windows 10: Google Pixel 5 no longer recognized with version 20H2, Build 19042.867

I'd been using my Google Pixel 5 on two Windows 10 laptops with no issues. One of my laptops just updated to Windows version 20H2, Build 19042.867. And now, my Google Pixel 5 is no longer recognized for file transfer. Normally, I'd select USB-File Transfer on the Pixel 5 and then it would appear in Windows Explorer as a device node. Windows 10 no longer does this. I don't see any unrecognized devices in my device list.

I double-checked on my other Windows 10 laptop that has not yet updated. It still sees the Pixel 5 just fine. It appears the huge 20H2 update has invalidated the Google Pixel device drivers somehow. Is there some way to correct this or am I forced to wait for a future update that fixes this problem? Thanks.

I cannot find 20H2 Build 19042.388 (KB4565503)

This warning is only for Dev channel builds (195xx or 20xxx) and 20H2 is older build 19042.

My Windows 10 Insider preview build is expiring soon

You can get 20H2 only doing clean install with released version v2004, build 19041 and set your PC to get previews in Beta channel.

If you want to stay in Dev channel and get rid of that warning you have to update your system.

- Go to Settings / Update and check updates or

- Download build 20175 ISO and use it for in-place update.

Where is Win 10 19042 version

Yes, that is correct. The version reported is 19041, even though 20H2 is 19042. That is because 2004 and 20H2 have the same system files and take the same updates.

If you had 2004, the update to 20H2 would be performed by installing a small enablement package. The ISO includes, in addition to the system files, this enablement package. It will be installed atr the same time, making the installed version 19042.

1909 was the first time this enablement package method was used. If you have an ISO for 1909, check its version, you'll see it says 18362, the build number for 1903.

Do you have download some unofficial ISO? Your issue is caused by how 20H2 preview is made.

When you turn your PC to Beta Channel to get 20H2 preview only small CU, KB4562830, (20H2 Enablement package) is used to change build number from 19041 to 19042 and version number to 20H2. Setup files on your 20H2 ISO's are still basically build 19041. If
you do clean install it will automatic inject that KB and eventually you get 19042.421 installed.

BUT: If you try in-place update with ISO then update program see installed build as 19042 and can't keep old apps and files. It's not possible to downgrade version / build numbers.

Why don't you use Windows Update?

It's possible to update from .388 to .421 manually, but you have to find latest KB4568831 from somewhere. When you have that KB make some folder, save it there with small script.

On my case I have D:\Update with that KB and script Update.bat.

Open CMD as Admin go to that directory and run Update.bat
