This is correct. Is also not OS related. It happens with Windows 7 and 10 as well as all browsers.
It has to be a problem with Google search itself.

No help from Google on this.

  2. Gee I just found an option to add "Ten Forums" as a new search engine. That's powered by Google. *Biggrin

Please stop saying things like this. Whether or not Edge is "ready" largely depends on your needs. For some, like yourself, it's not, but for many others, like me, find Edge to 100% satisfy my needs.

There are very few sites any more that have not adapted to be compatible with Edge. IE is still there because Edge doesn't and will never support ActiveX, and some (primarily enterprise) customers need ActiveX support for their internal applications. (Chrome and FF don't support ActiveX either).

Every browser these days is a constant "work in progress". Well, except IE, which is no longer getting new features.

  6. I'm far from the only one saying that for sure! Others actually hate Edge since it wasn't a finished browser when stuffed into 10 to begin! Those are the people who expected to see an RTM form of any new browser not something still in beta form.

As I said. The only "finished" browser is a dead one, such as IE. All browsers are in a constant state of change and adding more features. Just because Edge doesn't have as many features as browsers that have been around for 10+ years doesn't mean it was "unfinished".

You are confusing "finished" with "all the features I want in a browser". Those are two different things. Edge was as finished as it was supposed to be when Windows 10 was released. Much like Universal apps were not as featureful as many wanted when Windows 8 was released, so too Edge is going to grow and evolve.

Some people hate Chrome, some people hate FF, just because some group of people dislike something doesn't make it news.

Edge was RTM'd. You seem to forget that when Chrome was first released, it didn't have all the features it has today either. In fact, it didn't have extensions until version 4.0. Does that mean Chrome was released unfinished?

Please stop pretending the evolution of Windows 10 and Edge are any different from the evolution of any other OS and/or Brower. No Browser was ever launched "finished".

I'm not confusing anything! You could anything while it was still in the Alpha stages while the next person will only see it as something a long way off from being anything they want to use. My own assessment was to simply find it a bit too limited and will simply pass up on it for the time being.

But even with that you might still want to read what others have to say. There's quite a discussion going on about Edge on another thread! Microsoft: Windows 10 Users Should Say No to Chrome and Firefox - Windows 10 Forums

I notice you completely ignored my question. I'll ask again.

Since Chrome did not have extensions until version 4.0, does that mean Chrome was "unfinished" when it was released?

  10. I never use Chrome since that one also left me with the impression of an unfinished browser lacking in things! I preferred the 32bit Opera over Firefox back when still running the 32bit Windows and since have gone on to find out what does work here.

As far as the OP's inquiry is concerned since Edge is still new with MS still focused on their own search engine Bing it comes as no surprise that anything Google, Yahoo, ask, etc. would run into problems until Edge has progressed far enough to see options for adding alternates in.

I use (almost exclusively) Edge with DuckDuckGo as the default search engine. They both work perfectly fine together for me.

  12. And there is likely one main reason for seeing that. DuckDuckGo is a basic type of engine while Google is bloated! In fact Google got so big they have their own OS as compared to something smaller like an option you see with FF or Chrome in contrast. That plus the fact that Edge still needs quite a bit more refinement is where you may see things work out for you while the next person will be trying something else out and Edge is simply not far enough along.

I will say with one look at the latest Opera IN Stable release or Flock you will likely be better off sticking with Edge in comparison while you may also want to keep a secondary browser running along with it for the time being.

Google Search not working in Edge

It appears that tonight (Tuesday 3rd Nov. AU time) all instances of Google Search seem to be working in Edge, as I have not made any changes to my system I will assume that the problem was at Google's end. Whatever the reason, thanks everyone for adding your thoughts etc. I will mark this thread as solved regardless.

  14. I wouldn't be a bit surprised since Google has been IE, FF, and other browsers situated all this time. Glad to hear it's working for you.
