Windows 10: Google simplifying content policies for publishers

One of our top priorities is to sustain a healthy digital advertising ecosystem, one that works for everyone: users, advertisers and publishers. On a daily basis, teams of Google engineers, policy experts, and product managers combat and stop bad actors. Just last year, we removed 734,000 publishers and app developers from our ad network and ads from nearly 28 million pages that violated our publisher policies.

But we’re not just stopping bad actors. Just as critical to our mission is the work we do every day to help good publishers in our network succeed. One consistent piece of feedback we’ve heard from our publishers is that they want us to further simplify our policies, across products, so they are easier to understand and follow. That’s why we'll be simplifying the way our content policies are presented to publishers, and standardizing content policies across our publisher products.

A simplified publisher experience

In September, we’ll update the way our publisher content policies are presented with a clear outline of the types of content where advertising is not allowed or will be restricted.

Our Google Publisher Policies will outline the types of content that are not allowed to show ads through any of our publisher products. This includes policies against illegal content, dangerous or derogatory content, and sexually explicit content, among others.

Our Google Publisher Restrictions will detail the types of content, such as alcohol or tobacco, that don’t violate policy, but that may not be appealing for all advertisers. Publishers will not receive a policy violation for trying to monetize this content, but only some advertisers and advertising products—the ones that choose this kind of content—will bid on it. As a result, Google Ads will not appear on this content and this content will receive less advertising than non-restricted content will.

The Google Publisher Policies and Google Publisher Restrictions will apply to all publishers, regardless of the products they use—AdSense, AdMob or Ad Manager.

These changes are the next step in our ongoing efforts to make it easier for publishers to navigate our policies so their businesses can continue to thrive with the help of our publisher products.

New App Policy Center for Google AdMob and Ad Manager

Advertising policies help ensure a good user experience while maintaining a healthy advertising environment for app publishers. However, we also understand that without the right tools to streamline and simplify the process, handling policy violations can be frustrating for publishers. That’s why we’re excited to introduce the new App Policy Center for Google AdMob and Ad Manager.

The App Policy Center is part of our effort to protect quality AdMob and Ad Manager publishers while building and maintaining a healthy and trustworthy advertising ecosystem. It is designed to provide publishers with a single centralized hub to review and monitor policy violations and appeals, providing publishers with greater insight into our policy enforcement process. With all the information needed to remain policy compliant in one place, the App Policy Center will help reduce the risk of potential revenue loss resulting from honest mistakes.

The App Policy Center is available now for both Google AdMob and Ad Manager users. You can access it from the homepage dashboard once you sign in to your account.

View current warnings, violations, and appeals in progress

Appeal policy warnings for certain violations within a 30-day window

Request review after addressing a violation and track the status

In addition to surfacing this information in the App Policy Center, we will continue to notify you of important policy issues through email when any of the following events occur:

When a policy is enforced on an app

App receives policy violation warning

Warning turns into an enforcement

Review request is received

Review request gets accepted and an app is remonetized

Review request is rejected

We are constantly looking for ways to improve the experience on AdMob and Ad Manager, and hope the App Policy Center helps you handle policy issues with more ease and confidence.

Google unintentionally recommends the best sites to watch pirate content

To appease content creators/publishers and their profit margins?

Also, to play Devil's Advocate and to invoke the modern quasi-equivalent of Godwin's Law, replace "pirate content" with "child pornography"...

With the minor difference that pirate content has no relation to children having sex.

Content industries like shooting at bugs with cannons, I like Google stepping up for common sense here.

Blocked Publisher doesn't show up in Untrusted Publishers - how can I unblock the publisher?

I've already seen the following Post:

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I understand the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will definitely assist you.

To unblock a software publisher try the below steps:

Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

Go to the Content tab, Look under the Certificates section.

Click on Publishers button.

Select the Untrusted Publishers tab.

Select the Publisher you wish to unblock and click the Remove button.

This post does not solve my problem with a Blocked publisher, because When I check the "Untrusted Publisher's tab in Internet Explorer. there are no entries to remove.

Any other way to resolve this?

Hi,

The software publisher won't appear in the Untrusted Publisher tab. Since, the steps you've provided didn't work, you unblock the publisher using Command Prompt. Please follow the steps below:

Press Windows X, then select Command Prompt (Admin).

Press Shift + right-click on the program you want to unblock.

Click Copy as path, then paste in Command Prompt.

Hit Enter.

Let us know the result.
