I want to provisos by saying now that I know jack about computers, so I can’t go into much detail about all that techy stuff. I got a windows 7 desktop from my grandfather, runs like brand new, I factory reset it and took it home, hooked it up, connected it to my internet. It connected without issue but the internet is NOT working. The only thing I’ve been able to pinpoint is when I check the status of my internet, there’s “IPv4” and “IPv6”. The 4, is connected but, the 6 is not. I have tried nearly everything Google, Reddit, and Microsoft have suggested. I plugged in an Ethernet, have ran a t

  2. Internet Connection Sharing and Windows 7

O.K., I booted the dial up computer into Win 7 and connected to the internet, then went to the computer that is having the problem, fired up IE and searched for Google Chrome and the page did not load right. On the Chrome download page, the image that they have of YouTube was distorted. I refreshed, and it was still distorted. So, I rebooted the dial up computer into XP, connected to the internet and went back to my other computer and refreshed the page again. Still distorted. I closed IE and ran CCleaner which cleared the cache and cookies. Restarted IE performed the same search and page loads fine. (Still booted into XP on the dial up machine while I done this). So the problem only occurs when the dial up computer is booted into Windows 7 and doesn't go away until I use XP to connect to the internet and then clear the browser cache. Now, my daughter says that her computer (Win 7 Ult 64 bit), is starting to experience the exact same problem. Loads web pages fine when the XP system is connected, but has errors on web pages when Win 7 is used the make the internet connection. Something that I have not tried yet is to bring up a browser on the actual machine that connects to the internet to see how it acts. Will do that next.

  3. Internet Connection Sharing and Windows 7

I live in an area where dial up is the only internet available, therefore, I use ICS for my home network, which currently consists of 7 computers. 2 of them are running Ubuntu, 3 have Win 7 Ult 64 bit, one has Win 7 Pro 64 bit. The computer that dials up to the internet is running XP Pro 32 bit. I decided to update it to Win 7 Ult 32 bit. I installed another 1TB HDD and installed Win 7, all the drivers and so on. Got it connected to the internet and to my lan. The computer that I mainly use is one with Ult. 64 bit with the latest version of Firefox. Some webpages have been not loading correctly. They start to load then suddenly say that there is a content coding error and to contact the owner of the site. Among the several different web sites, TechPowerUp forums is one that acts this way. Some websites will load distorted. I can boot back into the XP drive, connect to the internet and no more problems. Pages load just fine. So, I'm wondering if I'm overlooking a setting on the ICS, or if it's a Win. 7 problem, or could it be that I'm using an old 3com ethernet adapter on the computer that connects to the internet ? It was probably brand new at the same time Windows 95 was. I have not noticed this problem on any of the other computers though.

    internet not connecting

    Hi,

I recently reformatted a computer and when I tried to connect to the internet it wouldn't work. The computer is an IBM and I have loaded Windows XP.

All the settings are the same with internet connections as the settings in my other computers in the house but it still wont connect.

    Using cable and on ADSL.

    Thank you.
