Got error 0x8007016A when copying an .mp4 file. I have removed OneDrive from my computer.

I used copy to copy a whole folder tree. I got the error message with one particular .mp4 file. I selected "Do this for all current items" and then clicked on Skip. The file was given to me by a friend. I have copied it before on this computer without getting the error message, though that may have been a programmatic copy.I have removed OneDrive from my computer. I'm using Windows 11.I was not offered the option I want: disassociate this file from the cloud. How do I copy the file without getting this error message?

    :)

  2. How to copy files that are no longer attached to OneDrive and error 0x8007016A?

I have several files that refuse to copy off my c drive to an external due to error code "Error 0x8007016A: The cloud file provider is not running". These files were once stored in OneDrive, but I have not used OneDrive in over a year and the files were deleted from that OneDrive. So all the suggestions concerning OneDrive sync and resetting OneDrive do not do anything. Also my system is fully up to date.

These files all open fine locally. How do I copy them and avoid this error?

    Thanks very much

  3. Error 0x8007016A: The Cloud File provider is not running: How do you fix it in 2023?

    Hi Stephen,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

Error code 0x8007016A is a common problem when trying to delete or move files or folders in OneDrive. It can be caused by various factors, such as bad Windows 10 update, File On-demand, syncing, power plan, or corrupted files. Here are some possible solutions to fix this error in 2023:

To fix the error 0x8007016A "The Cloud File provider is not running" in 2023, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check if the "Cloud Files" feature is enabled in your OneDrive settings. To do this, right-click on the OneDrive icon in the system tray, select "Settings", go to the "Account" tab, and make sure the "Files On-Demand" option is checked.
    2. Update Windows 10: Check for updates and update to the latest version of Windows 10.

To check for Windows 10 updates, follow these steps:
      • Click on the Start menu and select Settings (gear icon).
      • Click on Update & Security.
      • Click on Windows Update.
      • Click on Check for updates.
    3. If none of the above steps work, try resetting OneDrive.
      • Press the Windows key and R to open the Run dialog box, enter wsreset.exe, then select OK.
      • A blank Command Prompt window will open, and after about ten seconds the window will close. You can close the Microsoft Store window.
      • If OneDrive is still not syncing, press the Windows key and R again.
      • Copy this and paste it into the dialog window, then press OK.
        %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
      • Manually restart OneDrive by going to Start , type OneDrive in the search box, and then click on the OneDrive desktop app. Reset OneDrive - Microsoft Support
