  1. Got hit by COPA Ransomware

So I monkey brained yesterday and downloaded a software from a dodgy website. Then when I tried to installed it, I disabled the antivirus to prevent false positives. Anyway, it encrypted a lot of my photos and videos which was annoying at most.

The defender and malwarebyte quickly kicked in and stopped the attacks. The Ransomware was then quarantined/removed.

I checked the scan report and noticed that the infection basically did more than just the encryption. It brought in azorult and some other stuff ( which were caught by malwarebyte). It's now 2am and here I am restless kept thinking about this. Should I give everything a full format ? And should I transfer the encrypted files over to an external drive so that I could someday decrypt it? If yes, would the remnants of the malware be hidden in those encrypted folders/ files ?

I generally don't know what I should do really as I consider myself quite careful but I fucked up for the first time.
