Windows 10: GPT installation issues

Trying to install windows 10 to a GPT formatted SSD so i can then migrate to windows 11.I've definitely enable uefi only in my bios, here's the issues i've had so far.Tried converting the existing install drive from mbr to gpt, which worked, but then i couldn't boot, error along the lines of the efi file couldn't be found, so thought a fresh installation would be cleaner.Downloaded the windows 10 installation tool, get as far as the install, then it says windows can't be installed on a GPT partition.I've been at this for weeks, and genuinely can't figure out where i'm going wrong!Help!

Cannot convert GPT to MBR.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

This method you have to backup all your data and delete all partitions and volumes. Then use the
DISKPART command.

• Open command prompt and type in DISKPART and press Enter
• Then type in list disk (Note down the number of disk you want to convert to GPT)
• Then type in select disk number of disk
• Finally type in convert gpt.

Problem with W10 Install - EFI,GPT,MBR Issue

You can do what @NavyLCDR said in post #8 ie. Install with MBR disk type provided that your current MBR disk have less than 4 partitions.
or if you still want to install with GPT disk type then

The easiest way without doing all the steps above is:

1. Download from my google drive: DiskGenius.7z - Google Drive
   Format a USB with FAT32 and set it to active
   Unzip DiskGenius.7z to the root of the USB
2. Boot up. Right click on the Drive that you want to install Windows ->Convert to GUID partition table then click on Save All. This will convert the disk to GPT disk without losing Data
   
   
   
3. Once done. Boot up your installation disk to continue the installation.

 

GPT vs MBR for SSD OS Disk ? (win7 install)

So

I've got a new PC coming and this time it's the first time I will be using UEFI, i have read all the big stuff but I don't have the hardware yet so It's still kind of half baked but I'll do dig deep into it once I start building in the coming days.

I've read the win7 install guides, MS GPT FAQs (not fully yet), etc,

But I wish to know if:

I can use UEFI as an upgraded bios without having to use GPT disk format?

GPT disks can have any sort of partition cloning for full operational OS backup ?

Will GPT format improve performance on SDD or improve reliability in terms of data integrity or error rate?

When isntalling win7 with MBR but using UEFI, will it work normally without needing to uefi-boot the window7 install?


If I cannot backup my OS in a 100% clone that will boot normally when recovered, i will probably not use GPT, that shit is a step backward.
