  1. GPT protective partition apearing on new M.2 SSD

Hi, I have bought a new M.2 NVME intel 670p and have tried to format it but failed. The SSD has been installed in 2 for the 3 ports on the motherboard, tried using diskpart to clean it and set it to mbr and using aomei and partition wizard to format it but nothing worked. The size originaly shows up as 1024GB when freshly installed but when installed as GPT it shows 2048GB. When set as MBR it only shows up as 1024MB and lets me format it but then fails to. If I use the clean command in diskpart it also shows up as 1 GB unallocated. Also if I look at the GPT partition properties it shows it as MB

  2. M.2 SSD Partitioning

My OS is installed on an 128GB SATA SSD,

All other applications, when ever possible I used to install on another 60 SATA SSD.

I am very happy with the performance. It is pretty fast, better than if it were on the same disk. I have tested the difference.

Now I have a new ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming Motherboard with Two M.2 slots.

I am going to buy a 512 GB M.2 SSD.

As I have under stood the SSD consists of 4 Nos of NAND Chis.

Therefore on each NAND chip, I presume will have capacity of 64 GBs.

My question is are they really independent ?

Can they behave as independent Hard disks?

    If yes,

Can I partition my new M.2 SSD into an 198GB and 64GB partitions -that means 3 NAND chips and one NAND Chip?

and enjoy the same or better speed than before that I had with the SATA SSD?

  3. It says I can't install Win10 on m.2 SSD because it's GPT partition type?

I've been going around in circles on this with Disk Management. I formatted the SSD to NTFS, put a 'Simple Volume' on it. Some say to initialize it but that option doesn't come up when I right click it.

So how to I change from this GPT type to whatever I need to load Win10 on it?

I've watched plenty of youtube videos but they don't seem to have this problem. I followed them step by step but the installation stops because of GPT on the SSD.

clone MBR HD to bootable GPT partition?

    Hi,

    1. You cannot convert mbr to gpt without data loss. otherwise, you can follow directions here:

    FROM WINDOWS RECOVERY CONSOLE:

To change a master boot record disk into a GUID partition table disk using a command line

    • Back up or move the data on the basic master boot record (MBR) disk you want to convert into a GUID partition table (GPT) disk.

    • Open an elevated command prompt (right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator) and type diskpart. If the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes, skip to step 6.

    • At the DISKPART prompt, type list disk. Make note of the disk number you want to convert.

    • At the DISKPART prompt, type select disk <disknumber>.

    • At the DISKPART prompt, type clean.

    2. I'd suggest converting your vista drive to a virtual machine, load that up on your windows 10 system and use a program like virtualbox to run it.
