  1. GPU stops outputting video, Win11 keeps running, but reboot required to regain video signal

    HiThe discrete GPU suddenly stopa outputting video, Windows is still running if I press CTRL+WIN+SHIFT+B i hear the sound, but I don't get display output back. It requires a reboot to regain signal. As Windows11 it still running, I can shutdown Windows properly with a single click to the power buttonThis issue is described on the internet A LOT, but no-one knows what it is. Do you know anything about this error?The Initial Error in log Event Viewer is:"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."and these 2 errors happens 8 times row "restart cou

    Windows Update has stopped video output

    i saw there was a windows update pending on my windows 11 desktop, so I got update and reset. However when the computer reset there was no video signal. I have:

    1. Verified the HDMI cable works on another device, tried another monitor, tried a display port cable on another output in my gpu.

    2. Reset CMOS

    3. Reseated GPU

    I am unable to get to BIOS as my CPU doesn’t have integrated graphics. Besides trying the GPU on another pc tomorrow, and asking a friend to borrow a gpu I’m a little lost on what else I can do to troubleshoot the issue. Any ideas?

    100% disk usage when watching 4k videos.

    I suggest you to take a trace with WPR (it's a built in tool in Windows 10). And we can see exactly what's causing your video's glitches. Here is the steps;

    • Open a command line as an Administrator;
    • Type this command "wpr -start generalprofile -start CPU -start gpu -start video"; this will start trace recording.
    • While recording the trace, try to work on your system (launch a video) for 1 or 2 minutes max.
    • Then type this command to stop trace recording "wpr -stop C:\Temp\MyTrace.etl". Make sure the folder where you record the trace exist.
    • Compress the resulting file ( VeryImportant)
    • Share it through Send Large Files - Free Secure File Transfer - TransferNow or any other file sharing platform.

    I'll analyze your trace file and give you a feedback.

    See you

    GPU stops outputting video, Win11 keeps running, but reboot required to regain video signal

    Calculating Video Bandwidth/Signal Frequency

    400Mhz is the maximum frequency of the DAC on the video card. Consider for a moment that VGA (that is what you're talking about,) uses an analog signal and the card needs something to make that signal, which the DAC is used for. Not running it at 100% most likely is more to keep the DAC within safe limits within the realm of what it can do which is why you won't see it get all the way to 400mhz output. All in all, as video cards stop supporting VGA I think we will see video cards start ditching the DAC all together which I can't wait for. *Stick Out Tongue GPU stops outputting video, Win11 keeps running, but reboot required to regain video signal :p

    Edit: Just noticed that this is an old thread. WHY YOU REVIVE IT?! *Eek! GPU stops outputting video, Win11 keeps running, but reboot required to regain video signal :eek:
